    Carronades

The first photos show the first carronade fully rigged, next photos show the stages in which they have been rigged, I tied up all the tackles first and then just hooked them on and set them up, glued down the end of the rope and added the rope coils, they look a bit shiny in the photos but not in real life, they just need the paint touching up on the hooks and eyes, next I will add the nine pounders to complete the deck guns on one side of the quarter deck.

As of last night, I finally have the Foremast/Radars pretty much completed. Additional details such as waveguide, elec. cabling, other support legs, etc. will be added at installation. Also, touch up painting and handrail "fine tuning" will also be done at that time.

These parts were all scratchbuilt from sheet styrene, kit & Pontos PE & brass, other brass rods, and styrene rod. Modifications to the upper conning tower (shown in photos) will be next for additions on either side for the ECM houses and antennae.

    Reworked quarter deck gun ports

I first cut out the bulwark as necessary and laminated some wood to the right thickness, and the glued and pinned it on to the cut out section, I then re-cut the gun ports and added the rails, and the trim and when all done repainted, I did one side first, and then the other, a real pain to do but it had to be done, I could not have left it as it was as it would have botherd me. Over all the repair is not to bad and when the cannons are fitted and rigged you will not see it, if you did not know it was there, and the one good thing was the beech top rail did not break so that looks as good as before and its the part that the eye catches. Also all the channels, dead eyes and links are now complete and painted. Next the fore and quarter deck fittings and guns.

there was at this time the question if partial "canvas" sea and wheather protection Panels (like Trampolin way ) should be attached to the inner side of the railing or not. decision was to let it be

this and the next six Pictures are self explaining...

0,4mm brass wires are fiddled into the 0,43 mmm holes in the four hole railing stanchions, pre-lining up These is easier for mounting

finaly made it all around the Long poopdeck with 1 or 2 stanchion losses, but luckily with no false borings in the deck rims

I spent some more time the other day working on the headblock. I've just got a few finishing touches left to do. I also got the gooseneck connection to the head of the A frame pretty much finished. A miracle in that I managed to keep the glue away from the working parts, so it pivots and swings freely in all directions required (the capillary action of Tenax is incredible).

Last night I also got the first three rollers from my friend. He's done an amazing job, they are perfectly identical to the master I gave him, and aside from some expected flash, there are no defects or bubbles. He makes his moulds and sets them in a vaccuum to get rid of any air bubbles. After he pours the resin, he puts the casting under pressure. I've seen some other examples of his work, it's the finest resin casing I've ever seen.

Anyway, just that small update for today. The way things are right now, progress is slow. Just the nature of the monster really.

    Hi all,

I decided to go with the hull planking first and after start the deck planking.
With the first layer I kept it simple, nothing fancy, only a good support for the second one. I forgot to take some pictures with the first stages , I have only the finished product, first planking sanded down and ready for second layer.

Don't worry, I will get back to Pegasus at some point. I think that after almost two years of concentrated effort on her, I needed a bit of a breather. To be honest, I did start tying a few ratlines back in December, but I just couldn't get into it. So rather than doing a botch job, I set her aside for the time being.

The nine pound carriage guns were made up in the same way as were the eighteen pounders. The caronades were made up in stages as shown in the photos, I first looked for the tackle arrangement and used the one that seems most common, the issue was the fixing of the front carriage pin it shows it pinned through the bulwark on the bottom of the gun port, the problem with this would be, in lowering the bottom of the port to keep the cartridge level, it would be to low and look wrong, so I looked at every photo of caronades I could find, on models, and as mounted on H M S Victory, and most had the front swivel pin going through a block mounted on the deck in front of the port, so that is how I built mine.I am just starting to rig them in place.

Those carronades look excellent Ray, and the arrangement on the deck suits just fine. As I understand it the arrangement where the bed was fixed thro' the gun port cill was an early one, around 1780 according to Brian Lavery. By 1795 when Diana received her carronades, Lavery at least suggests the pad arrangement was typical.

Welcome to my new build log the HMS Pegasus.

After some very nice builds that i've seen here, I decided to have a go and I hope I will not mess up a very nice ship...
With this ship I also changed the manufacturer, from Mamoli to Victory Models and it looks like I made a good choice. I opened the box and the stuff inside looks like good quality, hope that will also be the feeling after i'll start building.

Hope you will enjoy the build and as always all advice and comments are welcome

For the moment a quick look to the items inside the box

Had some time this morning while waiting for someone to get ready for school, so I put on the first wash of dove gray.  Went on pretty light and I also noticed my camera flash setting was not correct.  A few more coats and then some weathering.  I also added the bridle catchers to the bow.  Unlike the Revel kit, the Renwal kit didn't have them molded in.
