    Hi Guys
    Diana the final photos.
I have managed at last to take and crop and re-size the final photo`s. Just under the 3 years to build, she has been a pleasure, although not without some difficulty`s, I am fairly pleased with the result, in hindsight some things I would have done a little bit differently, but not many, I might not have virtually scratch built the ships boats if the hull kits had been around, but this has lead me to be building another set of boats (scratch) at 1/48 as an in between project.

    Ray,

I SO love British understatements . "I am fairly pleased with the result,"  I lived in the UK for two years (St John's Woods-back in the 90s')

I, on the other hand, would be shouting from the rooftops if I could ever build a ship as beautiful as is yours. What a pleasure to admire! or should I say "Your ship turned out to be visually acceptable" (:-)

PS: Loved our time in the UK.

Mike - I know I'm looking enviously at your work, yup, we're in step (at least until you shoot past  )

Ray - you're so right.  What I actually really like about this kit is that it allows you to try things that maybe aren't necessary, but is a good proving ground for the future.  One thing I know, I won't be spiling a full hull until I'm retired!  The planking udner what will be copper will 'utilitarian' - i.e. something best covered by copper - which of course is as much work, if not more, than another layer of planking.

Here's how I dealt with the planking at the tricky plank at the counter.  I'm planning to use strip for most of the planking where I can but the first one required a spiled one.  Shaping planks with a steam iron is definitely something that helps.

Spiled planking at the bow pretty much done, walnut will be used below here.  Without wishing to waste any boxwood, I'm going about 8-10mm below where the waterline will be just to be on safe side.  This has had a quick surface sand to convince myself it will look OK in the end...

The tricky transition at the counter and the wale.  Spiled plank next to a 4x1mm strip for comparison.

Jason nice to see very good progress, I am a believer that sometimes you can over think things, and it just works out when to come to do it, practically all of the hull under the wale is covered by copper so although we aim for the best finish possible it will not be seen. I have just finished Diana, taking the final photos (after 3 weeks holiday) and it is a suprize just how much detail is covered up, you can hardly see the gun deck with the boats in place, but we know what`s there.
    Best regards Ray

Copper plating complete the second side has now been finished, only the rudder to do, to complete all the plating to sum up the plates went on very well were easy to cut dress to fit, there was loads left over, glad its completed and it was a good move to break it up by building the galleries at the same time.
I have also remove the protective tape of the gun deck.

    Second Planking
I started planking from the top of the wale, this position was marked out as per the instructions measuring down from the main deck gun ports. I like to lay the second planks semi-wet to damp and fix with cyno gel; I find the cyno grabs damp timber much better than dry timber. One thing I will comment on is the quality of the planking the 1x4mm being the worst, it is nowhere as good as the planking supplied in the two Victory kits I have built, the edges are rough and splintery, and also show saw marks, four out of ten would be my best mark I could give the 1x5mm a little better, So before soaking I had to sand all the planking edges a bit of a pain. I went downwards with the 1x5mm for five rows,( the instruction say plank right down to the keel and plank upward last), I then went upwards with the 1x4mm only because I thought it was only a matter of time while working on the bottom I would break or damage the fore or quarter deck sides, this way their thickness would be doubled and be a lot less fragile. The planking as gone ok so far.

At the end I have posted two pics with Diana along side Pegasus hope this gives you the size compassion.

Hi Guys thanks for your comments I can rearly now get on with Diana after reloading my old build logs. I have a few weeks and then am due for a total knee replacement so I am not shure if that will give me more building time or less ?

    Christian
I seem to remember in some old build logs this tramsom height problem when I get near to fixing them I can dryfix and send some pics to you, it may be a bit down the road as I plan to top & but the main gun deck first.

With the ships boats finished it has been back to the last of the rigging all be it slowly as other things have taken up most of my time in the last few weeks, the fore sheets tack and clue lines and the main sheets tack and clue lines have been added and rigging done !!!
I am now making lots of rope coils to add to the belaying pins and all the other rigging termination points.

The anchors were made up I used some split washers for the rings and added the puddening and used black tape for the iron bands, the overall look of the anchors are fairly good, they were then fitted in place.
I then went right through the rigging and made a few tweaks and a bit of re-tensioning (as photos below)and tidying up,only one job left adding the boats.

    Anchors added
