ChrisLBren got a reaction from Canute in Framing, best materials
Personally I prefer Swiss Pear - bought a flitch of it a few years ago from this business
https://www.rarewoodsusa.com/
I do own a 10 inch Dewalt saw, along with the Byrnes tools - but what I have very helpful is having a relationship with a cabinet maker. My resource lives close by and with their industrial equipment can break down boards to useable dimensions. Its much cheaper than buying pre dimensioned wood and less messy in terms of saw dust.

ChrisLBren got a reaction from mtaylor in Liogier Needle Rasps
Group - I order number 14 needle rasps kit back in August - handmade and stitched. They arrived last week - wow - I can not recommend them highly enough. I corresponded directly with the owner/artist Noel - during the manufacturing process. They are not cheap but will last a lifetime if taken care of. Here's his site.

ChrisLBren reacted to Gaetan Bordeleau in 74-gun ship by Gaetan Bordeleau - 1:24
Fabrication of the capstan from the first and second deck + installation of all the deck beams.
The easiest way to fabricate the curved deck beams perfectly parallel is to roughly cut the beams, sand the upper part, turn them upside down, and pass them under the drum sander.

Thank you guys for your feedback. My experience with hand carving is minimal and not very good. Therefore, the use of CNC milling maschne for carvings seemed to be the only possible solution. But even the actual production of cnc carvings requires knowledge of several computer programs to create a 3D model and prepare data for the CNC milling machine. So it's not just about turning on cnc and waiting.
Answer to scrubbyj427 - CNC maschine is small maschine made in China, but so far I'm satisfied.
Now some new pictures - stem.

Looking good Rusty - your instincts are right with Pear -I am a big fan of more of a monochromatic look - especially with the bright friezes.

Beautiful work Jason - also nice beer in the background shot !

ChrisLBren reacted to Trussben in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Trussben - 1:48 - Swan-class sloop based on TFFM
Upper deck framing well underway, always a constant battle against cumulative error but that’s why I am constantly checking against my framing plan to minimize its affects, you can maybe just see the overlay that I print out on transparency film to help me do this.

ChrisLBren reacted to mtaylor in La Belle Poule 1765 by mtaylor - Scale 1:64 - POB - French Frigate from ANCRE plans
After pounding my head against the wall with the stern, I'm ready to start cutting planks and getting the hull planked. I've decided to just build the "guts" to take the planking and window and line the inside with blackened wood. Following the plans at this scale meant all the supports and ribbing were so flimsy, they'd break just looking at them.
Now get the saw adjusted and start cutting swiss pear.

Hey Group,
I know I saw a comment recently about files and a certain manufacturer that makes the best ones for our modeling purposes. Can anyone share a link ?
Thanks much,

ChrisLBren got a reaction from Jorge Diaz O in New monograph : L'Egyptienne French 24prd frigate 1799
Wow - just wow - I have been collecting Ancre books and Monographs over the past few years. This is by far the finest. The incredible amount of detail in photos and plans are off the chart. Some of the previous Monographs require back up of the 74 Gun Series (which I own) as a reference. This one is a stand alone - everything is in here to make an incredible model - one that obviously influenced the Super Frigates of the US. I ordered it two weeks ago and it arrived today. I can't recommend this one enough - its a must have for anyone's library who love French ships. Bravo Gerard !

Thank you guys for all likes and very nice comments🙂.
To archjofo: why that modesty, your work on La Creole is amazing.
To JpR62: the moldings are done with milling maschine.
I continue with planking the outer parts of the hull.
