I've finished cleaning up and repainting the chainplates. . I also painted the decorative element around the hawse hole. A nice 20/0 brush and a careful hand got it looking good. This wasn't the first attempt, but re-doing acrylics is easy. The really hard part was getting both sides to look the same doing this free hand.

Chainplates are installed on the hull.

Rather than try to carve slits through the two rails, I decided to cut appropriate full-depth gaps. Not a big deal since it all gets painted anyway. After the chainplates were glued and pinned in place a small piece of wood the width of the rail was glued over the top. I then puttied with Tamiya putty. Once all this is dry I'll sand it smooth and touch up the paint. Since there will be a final overall flat coat it should blend in just fine.

This all had to be done after overall painting, as there was no good way to mask and paint the cove stripe with it being under the chainplates.

Finished the seine boat. I did not take in-progress pictures past that initial one on the build board. Let's just say the process between there and finished was not pretty, but in the end came out reasonably well. The plans themselves are very good, it's the method MS gives you to get there that isn't...

There is still a good bit of finished detail to add, but I'll leave that for later on at this point.

I worked on the chainplates last couple of days. I made the strop rings by creating a small jig to bend brass wire around, forming a loop on each, which were then cut and soldered closed. The chainplates were made from sheet brass, with a loop soldered in the top. I used some brass nails cut to simulate to bolts to attach the strop to the chainplate, and once painted it all looks reasonably good.

    Thanks.

I taped the top of the rail and airbrushed the vertical surface. Used Tamiya tape, which is really good stuff, been using it for years.

I'm currently working on some plastic models as well as the Latham, so things aren't proceeding as rapidly at the moment. I did get the cap rails installed and the hull painted. Hull was painted with the airbrush. I was going to scribe the cove as per prototype, but tests showed that was not going to work very well in the basswood so I decided to just paint it on, which turned out much better.

I used water slide decals from Microscale for the name. I couldn't find gold in the font/scale I wanted so had to use white.

Ok I couldn't take the bling factor on the carronades any longer. Last evening I got into blackening the carronades and one cannon I have done up for the port side. I was pretty nervous given the time spent on them and the sleds, so it was going to be a bit of a do or die moment. Well the results came out fantastic I think. Took a little trial an error to get the results I wanted and I hope you like them as well.
I started out soaking the pieces in a solution of Sparex #2 in a warming pot for about an hour and a half to clean them. Then they were dried and placed into a container of (straight) Casey's brass black for ruffly 3/4 of an hour. I then removed them from the caseys and rubbed them down with a paper towel which cleaned off the excess and produced results that were not where I wanted them. This was fine as I then placed them back in the casey's again for about 1/2 to 3/4 an hour and then removed them a second time and again rub off and polished them with a paper towel to get the final result. Here are some pics of the outcome.

Believe me it has been a treat working with pear. The guy who cut it for me did such a precise job, the planks were all exact. He is really happy with how it came out to. Thanks for the great comments

Thomas it was exactly as you predicted. I tested one carronade out in the ports and it was sitting to high. I removed the tube filed into the carronade with a round file and re-soldered the tube inset into the carronade. Big difference. I will go a little bit deeper with the recess on the next ones.
Appreciate the heads up. Here are a couple before and after pics

Ahh Thanks Guys, such a nice thing to hear! 😊 .. Sorry for not replying sooner but for some reason I missed your Posts ...

Over the last couple of days I have been setting up the Gaffs, beginning with the Fore Mast one, locating the Parrel beads and getting the blocks ready.. Oh and almost completely forgetting the Mast Hoops for the Main Mast, bit embarrassing especially after all the effort I put into them.. Don't mind admitting to an 'Oh Poop!'    moment as I looked at the Main Mast to see if they could still be placed without having to de-construct .. Phew all good as I simply had to lift off the Schooner Stay and slip the Hoops down over the various blocks.. 😌
Whilst doing all this over the past few weeks I thought I'd best show a sample of just how far 'off the reservation' (Or 'Beyond The Pale' if you will, appropriate for where  live which is just outside the actual Pale  ) I now am by showing a photo of the Ballahoo Box Art Work for the Bow area, which hopefully will give the non Ballahoo Builders an idea of just why I'm sometimes taking so long to do even the simplest stuff.. and having to research practically every Stay etc ... Fundamentally it looks the same but ... the devil is in the detail .
