Yes, you attach the walnut strip to the bottom and the stern. There should not be any need for filler if you make your cuts to match at the base of the stern. My strips fit flush with the keel, so very little need for sanding. Even if it does overlap a bit, remember, you are going to cover the bottom of the keel with 2 layers of planking, so the difference will not matter Wow, your keel is badly warped. I am not an expert but check the site by doing a search for "warped keel" see what shows up. I would take the heaviest book you have and lay it on the keel for 1 day or so. Also, when you attach the wood strip , it also will help to straighten it. This warp has to be fixed

Welcome to the Scotland build. We have a few of us doing the same build on this site. I, myself, am new to model ship building and this is my first build. So far it has be enjoyable. Feel free to ask as many questions you like. I found that the more questions and pictures taken , has helped me the most.

As far as the 6x1 strip - That was difficult. I used nails to hold the plank at the bow and then again at the stern. I then began to glue it gradually over the thin area , holding it together by hand. I needed a few drops of CA that helped it seal faster. I actually broke one of them when I was bending the plank. I decided to try to place the small broken piece back together at the stern. If you look closely at the picture above , you may see my fix. Do you know if this piece gets covered when I do the second planking??

Hi Harbm, Haven't heard from you for awhile, although I have been out and off the site for awhile Good to hear from you. Have you been planking from the top down to the false keel ? Are you taping the planks on both the bow and stern?

I have read the articles on planking on this website but still unsure of how it would apply to this model.

I was down to scraps on the deck planking material. There was no room for error. Wish the would have given more material

Hi all, I have been able to do the bulwarks. I hope I got it right Now onto the planking. I honestly am intimidated by doing planking for the first time. Any help would be appreciated Casey, you said you taped the strips. How did you do that exactly?

I used 70 mm planking but if you look carefully I fudged a bit on the planks from the quarterdeck to halfway to the deck house. There is only one layer of deck planking . 2 layers of hull planking. We will end up varnishing the deck I read an article on the website in the decking /planking section called Simple Butt-Shift Deck Planking It explains the step method. I found that using anything more than 2 step planking would be difficult with limited materials

Also, be careful on the deck plank material. There is not much extra material

Also, when you do the deck planking , take the advice on my build log to outline the planks BEFORE you glue them. I found that the glue got in the way of outlining it correctly.

It is looking good harbm. The pictures could be better but it looks like you have a piece missing on the quarterdeck. That should be covered by planking as long as you you can get the planks across the defect. There may be experienced builders here would might have a suggestion or two.
