I understand the ratlines are some of the most difficult of lines to get right. You seem to have done very well.

I am just getting into the real meat of this book and it is definitely enjoyable. So much information its going to take a while. Thanks for writing up this review. I also hope there is another work in the future.

Isn't the Ships in Scale magazine running a multipart/multi-issue article on this? I cannot remember if it was scratch or the MS kit. Wil check when I get home.

The gun rigging looks very nice. How did you know what size line and blocks to use/order? (I assume I have that info somewhere in my library but haven't found it yet...)

My current project doesn't have any boats to worry about but I will be moving onto the Constitution in a bit. Will be interested in hearing peoples thoughts on this.
I was able to pick up a copy of W E May's The Boats of Men-of-War a little while ago. This is a nice little book which has a large amount of information in it. What was very nice for me was that the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the book was all about the different types of boats (i.e. pinnace vs longboat vs jollyboat etc etc) also including slang common terms etc. Lots of great pictures and charts of scantlings etc. Also has rigging of boats and arming of the boats sections as well.
Here it is on AMAZON
Cheers

Ah, I see you're a quick study Maturin - you'll do well in this Hobby. Don't forget, when discussing the cost of kits, tools etc with your wife, to amortise the cost over the time taken to build, and then compare that to other past times, like golf for instance. Your wife will be very appreciative of the economical hobby you have chosen and funds will be released immediately!
I finally got one of my partners to admit in front of the wife that his membership initiation in the country club was 24k. She doesn't complain too much anymore when I buy a new book or tool.

Here is the pumps. The instructions state should use a piece of supplied styrene for the handles. Then paint it "any color of brown to give it a wood color". Instead I carved them from some planking stock. I think the result was pretty good.
