Hi Michael,
Really fine work you are doing my friend.
For the mouse, two years ago :-) I shared some information that I had found on the web. I don't know if it is accurate way to make a mouse.

Morning Jack,
Let me add a little to the discussion regarding the colour of the sails.
In general each region of the country had a slightly different colour scheme, if you take my neck of the woods ( East Anglia ) East Coast of the UK, the sails on working boats were generally coloured Red with slight variations within, by working boats I refer to Thames Barges, Fishing Smacks, Bawley's, Norfolk Wherries etc.
On larger sailing craft the sails were kept white or thereabouts.
The sails were maintained by an annual service and treated with ground fish and a turpentine like solution, the colour also helped to identify what region a boat came from along with slight variations with rigging techniques should the boat be sunk.
In your case the colour is down to you, your the builder and owner and as such you must go with what you like.
Be Good

You are a wonderful person, Bug, for doing a good man such justice. You have some of the masters offering help already, all I can offer is that I will sit back watch and offer my encouragement as you start this fantastic journey.
I will also promise to stop in from time to time tip one in memory of Augie and another one for you for doing such a generous feat.
Take Care

Thanks, Steven. The new workshop is not fully set up but am starting to work again. I have a vague plan to do a reconstruction of that mysterious beast, the hulc (hulk, holk) once I rig the carrack. How is the dromon going?
Cheers

Thanks everyone for dropping by in my humble shipyard and all the likes, I'm overwhelmed.
Thank you Michael, yes, I'm pleased with how they came out.
Hello Mark, thanks for dropping in and for your very kind word. That's one of the reasons why we should look at others work - it pushes us to emulate the inspiring work of others. We also learn new things, how other people have solved problems or are using materials we are not familiar with. I am inspired by what I see being done on this forum.
Hoi Carl, yes, working with hot metal does make it easier but by the time I get the hot bar to the anvil and then on it it cools off very quickly, thus a waste of time. The bend is really not that much and cold working the bar at this size works quite well.
If I'm going to make three more anchors as Hans is teasing me with, I may just give it a try. I can set the torch nearby and heat it up between the hammer whacking. Or let Gwen hold the torch to keep the bar hot
Well okay, so after I came back from the dentist and had some lunch I decided to drill the three 1 mm holes in the parts, make the two flukes and solder all the metal parts together. Tomorrow I'll finish dressing it down some more, make the rope ring and stock.
Here is the evidence of this afternoon's 2 hour work session. Hope yuns like it.
Cheers,

Thanks for all the positive feedback & all the likes.
I made the top rails out of the same mystery wood & scrolled them the same way. The instructions say to drill the holes for the stanchions part way through the bottom of the top rails then glue wire stanchions (left a little long) in top rail holes, dry fit & measure wires against upper head rails to mark hole positions & get wire lengths. Drill holes half way into top side of upper head rails, clip wires off to right length & assemble all this. I found it easier to glue top rail on then drill from underneath straight through the upper head rails up into the bottom side of the top rails. I cut the stanchions to the correct lengths, pushed them up into the holes& glued them. Filled the holes left on the bottoms of the upper head rails with glue & sawdust mix. Worked very well & hardly shows at all. Then made the bumpkins & glued them on. Pinned them with small wires to hold better

Bug,
I think this will mean a lot not only to Diane but to the rest of us here at MSW. I'm sure that Augie would agree that Confed is in very capable hands. A fitting tribute and memorial to a wonderful human being and a great friend.
