Ian B reacted to hof00 in Bismarck by hof00 - FINISHED - Amati - 1/200 - Partworks
Hi All,
It's been a while since I updated this thread....
Anyway, I have been busy and many times "Agonizing" over the build.
So, the Superstructures are pretty much complete, Fwd S/S and Bridge Deck on.
Installed Funnel, Hangars and Foremast Detail bits, Guns, Etc. installed.
Had fun and games with the Aft S/S, (As I did with the Fwd.... 🙂)
The major issue I had was how to align Mast with Aft Signal Station, anyway, it's done/installed and everything that needs to be is vertical.
Arados are complete, Canopy Frames "Hand" painted by my partners son, a very nice job too!! (Apologies that these photos did not come out well, I'll get more later.)
Things construction-wise, Skylights/Depth Charges to be installed around the Aft S/S, Catapult Covering, a couple of small AA Guns, Anchor Fixing Points, Anchor Chains and Air Recognition Decals. (I'm sure there's a few more things than that....🙂)
I have also been communicating with Joe, (joe100) who very kindly supplied me with Accommodation Ladder Plans and positions on the Hull. I thought I'd "Prototype" a deployed Accommodation Ladder asd the "Kit" has these stowed on the S/S sides. I thought they made things look a little "Cluttered."
Anyway, something to have a go at soonish.
And not to forget Rigging.... At least the 12.5 Ton Cranes are done. (Small Blessings.... 🙂)
There are errors on my build, things that I am not completely happy with but that's life, maybe the Trumpeter Bismarck will be better....
Anyway, forwards....🙂
Cheers....HOF.

Hi Techtonic
Thanks for that great video. There was quite a lot of information in it and hearing the correct pronunciation of many things was an additional bonus.
Did you already decide which variant you will build?
Hi Ian
Your sails look good!
Me, I'm currently setting up the spanker and should have some pictures in a few days.
Cheers
Peter

I've milled mortises into frames 2 and 29 for the bitts as well as a number of mortises in the carlings for posts that will support the deck structure. A half dozen slots have also been cut into the ends of the carlings where top timbers associated with the bow and stern will pass.
I believe that I have completed all work needed prior to permanently attaching the carlings and frames (with the exception of frames 1 and 30 that will be dealt with later).

I have chosen to build a model of 'A Port Dredger' following the Ancre monograph by Gerard Delacroix:
It does not appear to be a common project, although there is a wonderful build log on MSW:
Machine a curer les ports 1750 by guraus (Alexandru) - 1/36 - Finished
I have chosen cherry as the wood species for the model. I was given a piece of this species of wood by a friend a number of years ago and it is being used for the frames and main carlings. Unfortunately, the piece will not be enough to complete the project, but fortunately I was able to source additional matching cherry locally. All of the wood is rough cut so I will be milling everything I need for the model.
I began by making the three main carlings and 28 of the 30 floors:
The floors were cut overlength and marked for 6 notches each that will match with the carlings.
The notches were fashioned with a chisel, unlike the notches in the carlings which were milled.
The floors and carlings nicely mate!
Next knees and top timbers where cut out with a scroll saw.
The knees where positioned and glued to the floors. At this point, the hull was starting to take form (here the frames and carlings are not permanently connected).
After a bit of final adjustment on the knees to be completely level with the floors, the top timbers were added.
Each frame / knee/ top timber combination was then drilled for 10 'bolts'. The holes are 0.5mm and the 'bolts' are 24 GA copper wire. It did take me 3 #74 drill bits to do the job as I did break 2 of them. After inserting the copper wire with a touch of CA glue, followed with a bit of filing and finish sanding got the job done. I am satisfied that the 'bolts' are visible but don't overly direct my eyes to them.

Chuck of Syren fame on his Cheerful build printed the flag on tissue paper then used a spray fixer. Looked so realistic -- on the Syren website you can down load the last pdf pages which shows how it is done...

I'm just about to embark on my sails --so its good to see your mock ups. I now keep changing my mind as to which way to go-- i am now thinking a mix of full and furled sails as per your painting...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh to much to choose from 🤪

Ian B reacted to Iseaz in King of Prussia by Iseaz - Corel - 1/42
Last week, I slightly curved the stern plate, which was not easy because of the thickness of the plywood piece. Despite that, the gluing was a bit tricky...
Then, I prepared the fake windows, with 1x1 strips instead of the 1x2 recommended in the instructions which seemed too big. I don't know if I paint them gold because the walnut colour looks good, The rudder chains were blackened and installed. The white part of the hull was varnished.
The storage of the cannonballs was drilled out with a round drill bit and painted with walnut colorant. I added the top part of the rails with 1.5x5 walnut strips.
However, these strips had to be bent to fit the shape, I tried to do this with an steam iron but the strips broke. As I can cheat by painting the walnut pieces, I took some leftover sapelli, glued them and then cut them to form the railings. I'm quite happy with it!

And the option to obscure the whole planking job in black paint makes it a very appealing first timer build. 😁 I had the same thought Richard with my first build-- Bounty-- nice white paint to cover things up the lower hull ..you are making great progress--keep it up and thanks for starting a building log for us to follow, very much appreciated.

Its coming on great--- glad I am following you, I noticed after looking at your pictures I have missed the foot ropes on my jib boom--- so thanks I shall correct that soon. Liking the anchor chains the length and the colour looks spot on to me...I have not fitted them yet I shall leave that to last when I fit the lights ---
