    Hi Piet

Those eyebolts certainly wouldn't have been fun to do, but gees, you've done them proud!

    Nice job.

    Cheers

Those eye-bolts and hooks would be tedious to make for sure Piet, but they came out good. Looking forward to seeing them all mounted and securing the cannon.

Thanks Mark. That was something which was buzzing around my head as a possibility

Speaking about deck houses ... It seems as rule - to make them all together and to paint them all together, just to secure same color on all of them ( I like to mix  acrylic paint to get as much equal color as on real ship  )

That means that very next stage is to spend days and days in front of the PC "playing" with Adobe Illustrator and analyzing all plans and pictures of all deck houses I have. Ok, maybe to make and mount bollards for aft deck when I surfeit with AI drawing

And not to forget those nice pair of eye-bolts hidden between dead eyes. Maybe there is another sweet detail hiding from me ?

Kids had their garden party, and I was expelled to my workshop, when I finished slavery work with BBQ   . They know nothing about BBQ, except to bring huge mountine of meat

Being a refugee in my own house, what else to do, except to continue with Her Majesty ?

Here is another dead eyes line mounted

    Yes, my friend, you understood.
It's possible that it might work.  By the time you get all the deck furniture in place, the masts, etc. you are gong to be tight on working space.  Build and fit them but don't glue them down until the deadeyes are all rigged would be my thought.  You'll have to figure it out if it can be done, however, as I haven't built the CS.

Beautiful closeup shots are one of many reasons I love this forum.  Coupled with excellent narratives and informative books beginners like myself are able to overcome the most difficult challenges of ship building

    Hi Nils,

Wow, what a pleasure to come aboard...I just spent a wonderful morning looking through your log

All I can say is absolutely amazing work, the details are superb (just love the Props and Ruder as I'm a long time RC guy...I understand your choice about the running gears).

You continue to be an inspiration to all of us Nils

    Hello Nils,
Yes - I fully agree with you, a large scale model of the Vaterland would be more than welcome on this forum.
Actually the Emperator class consisted of three ships. After the armistice of the First World War, the Emperator was taken by the French and renamed 'Liberte', the Vaterland was take over by the Americans and renamed 'Leviathan'; while the third ship, which was still in the state of construction, and which was to be Christianed with the name of 'Bismarck' was taken over by the British. Cunard or White Star Lines.

I have a book which relates the story of the three ships. The book is published by Verlag of Germany. Quite expensive, as it cost me some 290 Euros including courier postage to Malta. But believe me Nils, it was really worth it. The book is full of construction pictures, and that is the detail we always look out for. I was informed that the set consists of six books, and I would believe that one of the books could be dedicated to the ship that you are building.

    Hi Jesse

Really fine details on the sails, which are nicely shaped. It won't be long now before you can place her permanently into the bottle.

I'm looking forward to the next update.

    Cheers

Brushed the dust & stuff off the inside of the bottle. White painted the wave caps. Didn't trust that glue would hold hull down to putty when the rigging is pulled so I wedged wood sticks down in the putty to have something more solid to glue the ship to. Cut out sails. Stained them with coffee. I always  do a wash or 2 in baking soda if I use tea of coffee to neutralize the acid in them.

Hi Bob, Carl and Frank. Thanks also to all those who hit the Like button! Much appreciated, as always.

    Bob-thanks for your compliments!

Frank-nice to hear from you and hope you're on the mend!

Carl-Thanks! The real ship has white masts, but wooden booms, which to my mind, look a bit odd, but they're a nice contrast, nonetheless. As for the rigging thread, I bought it from our local Spotlight shop (you may have a similar type of shop that sells, material, threads, buttons, etc).

    Hope this helps!

    All the best.

    Cheers

I could see the rigging, but where are the masts ... What kind of thread have you used, Patrick. It looks good on the model that size

    Hi everyone

Thanks for your comments and likes!  Greatly appreciated.

Well, tonight I managed to do a bit more on the masts; e.g. some of the rigging attachment points and the two mizzen masted radar domes.  I also attempted to fashion the roller furling gear on the bowsprit, although at this tiny scale, it just looks like nothing more than a cylindrical drum on the bowsprit.  Oh well, it's the essence that I'm trying to capture, more than anything...well, that's my excuse anyway.

I've also jury rigged the rigging (pardon the pun), so that the masts will stay relatively upright.  Please excuse having taken the photos in our ensuite bathroom...it's the only room with a light bright enough that would enable the rigging to be seen!!!!

    Anyhow, pls enjoy these photos.

    Cheers

Yes, that thinning is tedious.  But the inboard planking looks great.  You'll get more thinning work on the ship's boat!!

Thinning down the inside bulwarks turned out to be way more involved than I expected. Took a long time & keeping them the same thickness was really fun . I ended up with notches in the bulkheads. Filled  them in with wood filler. Planked the inside bulwarks.

Managed to get the first boat finished today (6 more to go). It is one that will mount upside down on the Shelter Roof, so not much details other than on the exterior. this one has a blue stripe on the side. Each boat had a unique color so they could be easily identified and monitored from the ship as they were either catching or chasing a whale.
