Piet reacted to lmagna in Providence 1775 by lmagna - Artesania Latina - Continental sloop kit-bashed from colonial schooner Independence 1776 kit - First wooden POB ship build
That makes one of us Dave!
The whole prospect has me more than a little terrified. The only planking I have ever done was about 25 years ago on an Icebreaker tug hull and even though I didn't follow the rules as I know them now from this site. the hull came out OK.
But this time I "Know better" and trying to do it the right way, in public so to speak, has me very nervous! I have all the bulkheads faired and I need to add some attachment pieces at the stern for the planking.
I also need to do a little back tracking on the sub-quarter deck as I didn't get one side right, and I have a warp along the edge that I didn't catch until I glued it down! So I need to get it apart again and increase the camber on that one side of the bulkhead and glue it back down!
It possibly would not be seen later If I went ahead, as it can only really be seen when you look down the deck sheer line, and that would not be visible after planking. But it might also become more visible, in which case it would be even harder to deal with. If it was a low spot I could just fill it in at this point and all would be good but it seems to be that somehow I did not get enough camber in that beam so the deck is too flat!
Thanks for dropping into check up on me.

Thank you all dropping in and your very kind comments.
I'll be calling the plexiglass place next week to find out what the cost will be for them to cut the pieces I need and the cement.
While I'm at it I'll also ask for the glass for the O19. I hope it's not going to break the bank.
Gwen still not asking for Musi?
No Jan, Gwen says whenever you get around to it.

Piet reacted to amateur in Prins Willem by amateur - Corel - 1:100
It was one of the difficult parts: the blocks are not heany enough to get the line sag naturally. I did not use the corel-thread, but something else (I think it was Amati), and far thinner than the Corel-line.
I started from the bowsprit, next the running part to which the spider blocks are attached (without tying that one off to the stay). Next the 'spider part' working inside out, using clove-hitches to tie them to the stay.
next I have attached a small weight (paper clip) to the spider blocks, and have been tweaking endlessly with the running part to get thetension right. As soon as it looked okay, I have more or less fixed the whole thing, by brushing it with a diluted white glue.
It took me at least four or five tries to get the thing more or less good, without overtensioning it, and having the stay pulled outward. And yes, I have been rerigging the stay-block to get more tension onthe stay... Both blocks are almost touchi g now, as Ineeded quite a lot of tension in the stay to have the whole looking OK. Problem was also that my spritmast tended to go backward, as I tensioned the lines. Delicate balance indeed.

Thanks for pointing that out Sam, the first to mention that "little" detail which makes it more interesting ... (Chaos is in small things?) Had another look at the finished diorama ... marvelous Piet...

Outstanding Piet! I especially like that there is variation in the gun smoke. Too many times we try to make things exactly the same when there should be variation.
Well done.
