Piet reacted to popeye the sailor in Jeanne D'Arc by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - Heller - 1:400 - PLASTIC
once I started with it, I was compelled to go further. to move on my idea would be futile....the bonder I use is glossy. so, I started to cut up those insignia decals I got from a Fokker kit. I also added the last two yellow lines that run off of the caution stripe.
I added the two stripes along the two walls...just though t they needed to be there.
I used a paper punch to cut the rounded part of the #5 circle. I'll just park a helicopter over it and hopefully it won't show.
the gap in the caution stripe was filled in. perhaps I'll try an archive pen to draw in the lines.......whatever will work, I guess. I noticed that one of the antennas was knocked off the funnel mast....so I fixed that. then I added the main mast. waiting for it to dry...it's OK though, the admiral and I have to go out for an errand. depending on how you look at it......the repairs look either ok......to 'sticks out like a sore thumb'.
I'm glad the decal work is done. there are only a small handful of parts left. for the folks who celebrate it, I haven't had the chance, but I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. ours was very nice.......a great dinner and the traditional snooze in the afternoon the admiral wasn't complaining.......I did the after dinner dishes

I have a minor update to this project.......I've been busy putting the finish on a couple of non related projects. after disastrous affair with the decals, I worked up the courage to try and finish the deck. I still need to repair the center line......but the caution stripe around the elevator needs to be in place to do it. as I figured, the decal broke into five segments......unfortunately, I was only able to utilize four of them {shoulda used the decal bonder}. live and learn.
I might have a way out though......I might be able to fix this using HO train decals.....but only if they don't come out glossy. I'll see how it goes

Thanks Ed. That makes sense, since you don't want to it to fly apart when repairing it in a seaway.

Wow. I am overwhelmed by the very generous comments on the last post - but a little disoriented in thinking about the possibility that Druxey would consider "fudging" something. That does not compute.
As with many tasks on the model, this one had its fits and starts - mostly on the question of how to make all of them efficiently. Once over that hurdle and with some help from CAD, it was downhill. Deciding not to solder was a key decision and really simplified the work - and... thank you, Sherline. I don't know what we would do without those calibration wheels.
There are no dumb questions Harvey, only dumb answers. I took the design of the sheet blocks from a detail on one of the drawings in Underhill, Masting and Rigging of the Clipper Ship and Ocean Carrier - a truly wonderful resource. I did not think too much about the four pins, but I believe that the central pin is important structurally, to maintain spacing, and to allow sheaves or the top pin to be removed without the whole assembly coming apart. There was probably a spacer boss on the center pin.
Again, thank you all for following and for the flattering comments.

Fantastic work Ed-something to aspire to.
Maybe a dumb question, but I'm a little thick headed these days anyway-why are there 4 holes in the block? I understand the 2 for the sheaves and the 1 for attachment, but I don't know what the hole in the middle does-other than to hold the plates together should the block be disassembled for maintenance. Just curious. . .
Thanks again for enlightening us with such beautiful work and clear instructions.

Wow- anyone saying to themselves, "now I'm going to have to make these for this model!" ? This model gets better and better at each turn.

Amazing detail Ed, and again very useful to me. That is a great way to mass produce these parts. I cannot wait for you to publish the third volume

I would have expected more archaic design as ornamentation on these ships. Can't say you didn't use your imagination ... frightful fellah you selected

Thank you very much Carl,
I`ll be surprized myself what is cooking in the pot....., maybe some fish soup or stew... with thunny chunks...
Am meanwhile thinking ahead about the decoration of the ship, think I`ll be going for some figures out of the maritime Greek Mythology, like dolphines, mermaids with starfish and Neptune / Poseidon, the mythology`s ocean god. Have chosen his head with long hairs and beard in resin as the rudder-head figure.....
Nils
Neptune / Poseidon out of the Greek Mythology
(the figure is from De Agostoni, Italy )
guess whats cooking here....
will put a little paint on the figure head later...

Lovely detailed work on your kitchen ... I'm afraid you'll turn in hungry after finishing such a large pot ...

Piet reacted to flying_dutchman2 in Utrecht 1746 by flying_dutchman2 - FINISHED - Scale 1:48 - Dutch Statenjacht
I went to Google.nl and searched for statenjacht Utrecht and came up with all types of pictures. Areas that need to be painted a total different color. Also found additional items that are not included in the plans. As I am going to model it like the replica, I am going to omit the canons.
