So after hours of searching for some appropriate letters and talking to numerous MSW members I decided to give rub on letters another try. Using scotch tape as my template here's what I got : It took me 4 hours just to "try" to get the letters some what in line. The curve of the transom and molding made it difficult to get it right. So here's my best shot. As always feed back is appreciated.

It looks like you found a good fix Robbin. Just a few more knots and the rat lines are behind you

Randy, I don't know about you but I'm a woodchuck and making sawdust is what keeps me going. I have my next model already laid out (rattlesnake) and the its onto the constitution. After looking at the plans for my constitution I question my skills to attack that model. I may tackle something like the Syren before taking on the monsterous constitution. Obviously "go big or go home" mentality. And in the end it's only money, right ? What's $500 or so dollars? Probably not too much help but am eager to see you continue your build.

Hopefully today I will make it to a craft store. Hoping the scrapbooking area will have the lettering. I really appreciate everyone's feedback, ill be hunting for vinyal lettering too. JPETT- the rub on lettering is what I tried, right font, style, but when applied if I missed a spot it tore the lettering. Got so frustrated I nearly kicked my dog. Martin-would love to see another snake build, their is so few of these builds.

I say compromise. I don't think it's a bad thing to have anther ship in the works. I bounce between my rattlesnake and the San Fran and had I only one ship I could and probably would have bogged down. So as I see it what's your next ship.

Took a break from rigging my San Fran and decided to work a little transom: Looking at the plans it seems as though their is molding around the windows. I use styrene for the molding and got a good result (I happy with it). Debated making a profile scraper to make my own fancy molding but looking at other logs this doesn't work out well with thin wood. Trying to come up with a solution to put "RATTLESNAKE" across the stern. Got some rub on lettering......huge fail. So does anyone know where I could find some appropriate lettering, maybe water transfers decals ? Would prefer slightly raised like etched brass or ???????

I second Randy's idea. I was going to do it myself before I decided to drill.

"and yelling at kids "get off the lawn." I look forward to time in my life not only that but passing gas in line at the grocery store without flinching or any signs of embarrassment

Did your kit have the streamer flag with it (the long one) ? That flag seems to have the most potential for disaster. Im also working on my sails and plan on furling them. The kit supplied sails are cheep and have contrasting thead. I think I'll use some of my wifes expesive linnens for this. I know she will be made at first but in the end she will be happy buying new sheets. "its easier to ask for forgiveness that to ask for permission."

Your improvised router table seems to be doing the trick! I'll have to copy this down the road on my build

CA glue extender tips question
sport29652 replied to cdogg's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
I swear by these to apply my CA. I dont attach them to the bottle instad I put some CA on wax paper syphon a little up and apply to my work. If its wood it will draw it out of the tip, other materials I blow gently into the opposite end. My wife says I look like a crack head doing this but it works great and I dont get CA everwhere just where its needed.
