  1. I'll sander her some more. The transom area needs allot more sanding (as the picture shows quite well). Ive never painted a ship model before So mentally getting a little stuck on this and how it will look once its done, but what the heck, if its messed up ill sand some more and paint again.
  2. So a month latter and here is where I am : I've sanded the hull lightly. I didn't sand it to erase the imperfections instead I think I'll leave some of the beauty marks so once it is painted you will still be able to see the planking joints. Feedback would be appreciated Here you can see some of the beauty marks The camera really brings out the imperfections. Could sand this area some more. Side view. Some of my work on the gun ports can be seen. I will sand these flush. So till next time I look forward to your replies
  3. This weekend provided a great opportunity to work on my builds. I've finished the yard arms ? And worked more on the upper ratlines. So sick of the ratlines. I Like the othe aspects of the rigging with the exception of the plans/instructions lack of consistency.
  4. Good job Robbin ! It's get better once the ratlines are done.... Wait I'm still on the ratlines I'm hopping its gets better :-)
  5. I too had a WTF moment when It came to tying the tiny knots. That's been my biggest challenge. Fortunately I tie flies , some of my tools for this have helped tremendously
  6. I'm also anxious to see where you are JP, once I saw your rattlesnake post I got excited. Where are you at.
  7. I purchased some Amati line from nature coast awe ago and used this for my deadeyes. It takes about three to four weeks to get an order from them but it could be faster since your in Kansas
  8. the line i used in the deadeyes is smaller. The ratlines are same diameter. Hope that helps ya Robbin
  9. I here ya. We have all the smoke from the "rim fire" (in Yosemite) and its killing me. Wake up feeling like I smoked a carton of cigarettes in my sleep. I've just got a good rhythm right now and have put my rattlesnake out of view. What are you building next ?
  10. Can't wait to see this. I want this kit and will just have to live vicariously through you for now.
  11. Love the rubbing strands and the nails give it some pop. I wish I had done this with my build really looks sharp
  12. Love your build sir ! I will follow anxiously as this is my next build and I can't wait to get to it, till then ill follow the rest of the Connie club
  13. Upper rat lines started! should be a week more of knot after knot.... Some of my yard arms are ready to instal. I feel so close to the end but so far lots more to do. If the plans were clearer I could have saved countless hours. With this kit you have to look at every picture and plan. So many blocks are omitted in the plans and are shown in the pictures. I'm still confused as to the rigging that attaches to the blocks/attachment thingy at the junctions of the masts (I know great description maybe ill take a pic to get some help). Anyways talk to u guys later Only four more to go !
  14. Jim, I was a deputy corner for 9 years, and saw more than I want to. I've seen this happen many times. Taking your life will hurt your family and leave them in more pain than you intend. I've also seen people live decades past when a doctor has says his time is up. The constant factor with the survivors was a want and will to survive. Talk to someone now not on this forum U will be in my thoughts and prayers
  15. Thanks ed, I hope the new coach, figures out the goalie situation and why they keep flopping come post season. I like the sedin brothers but not a big fan of Kesler. My #2 team is the sharks so I hope vancouver gives them a run but in the end I hope the sharks finally bring home the cup.
  16. Well done as your starting to see scratch building your own parts will make your model better and at the end produce a work you are proud of. Remember have fu. And we are all here to help. P.S. we will se how the nucks do this year tough division though ?
  17. Thanks marinid, I hope you post a log so we are can help one another. Working on attaching blocks and the upper ratlines. Stuck with the same method I used for the lower but smaller version. Tried attaching blocks using wire..... Didn't go so well. So ended up using thread which at times is easy but making the eyes to attach rope was a little more challenging. The pre drilled holed for the upper deadeyes payed off and I would recommend this for other builders.
  18. Thanks guys, I actually found my answer while working on my rattlesnake the ratlines connect to the crows nest in this fashion but it may be a more modern rigging technique just like foot ropes.
  19. While we're on the subject of sorts would/is their a foot rope on these type of ships. Every other ship I ever seen has them. Is this a AL mistake ? I could t imagine they would omit anything !
  20. Furl, I like that idea, how is the sail kept tight against the yard arm ? I know it will be good at the ends but at the middle it would droop, so did they use individual ropes to secure it?
  21. Go speed racer ! We are neck and neck. Are going to use the supplied sails? Mine look horrible so I think I will make my own. Again good job will look to see how you rig her
  22. lookin good ! Is the gangway abouve omitted in the hann plans ? or is that coming up.I see it on my plans and think about what a bear its going to be
