Good luck with the digital instructions and parts list. There are also some instructions that are poorly sequenced, in my opinion.

Finally some sunshine to take a few pictures. Have made some progress during the rainy, cloudy and cold past few weeks.
While working on the stern I broke the bond on one of the net railing fence pieces. Removed the fence entirely thinking it would be best to clean off a little of the glue before reattaching. Once removed decided I like the look better without these fences so removed them all. Then decided I preferred a very clean top rail and took off all the bits as well.

Thanks for your help. That was the initial post which led me onto this group. 😊 It is a good starting point but it does confirm what I mentioned: there are no sail plans in those books. Of course, I can go ahead and measure when we have the booms up. But.... arghh...

masts and bowsprit... its a slow motion work due to lack of expirience. After all I think not bad... Its the fitst time building the masts of such period tallship.

Wuao... that was hard. Two days strugle to get the dead-eyes on the fore channel.
I hope I did everything ok. Hole were extra drilled and a primer was used in order to get the paint on the brass wire parts.

The flag is ready. Thats the Royal flag (Royal Standard1365-1792) flag of the Kingdom of France. WIth the coat of arms of the House of Burbon . As Lafayette sailed for the first time 1779-80, the King of France was Ludwig the XVI.

Its being a long time since (30 Dec) I had some real progress, but now the shipyard is in full tempo again.
Both Lifeboats are ready and on-board! And some celebration its needed… send a barrel XO Cognac Hennessy on-board….

I have mulled this over from time to time and especially of late with the Atlantis I am finishing for a client. If you follow the thread on this model under RC models you will see it isn't a terribly complex model but has required some "yankee ingenuity" and lots of time. I am only doing it because I really like the people I am working for. Its certainly not the money as I think when it is done I will have earned about $3/hr!
Now here is the other end of the spectrum. I know of 2 professional modelers and one has told me his commissions for the museum quality models he turns out range in the 10's of thousands. His clients are business owners and private collectors of means. He is well known to many of us and has been doing this since I first met him in the early 80's. I have to assume he has continued to do so because he can support himself. But those pay checks are such a long way in between.
Create these models for the love of it, not the money! Just my opinion.
