    Hello!

Finishing my Le Coureur i decided to give a chance of having a scale "sensor".

So i gave a shot on some WWII 1:48 plastic kits i had. So i converted Soviet ground personel into XVIII's Century french sailors and officers.

    Here are some pictures.

Maybe with some better painting skills the resaults are better.

    Greetings.

    Hello mates!

A little progress. I made the gunwales, and some work in the "cockpit".

But first of all i want to mention that i recived some fittings from Syren Ship Model Company, thank you @Chuck for your fittings and rope, they are very fine made, and i hope i'll be able to use them properly. I'll be buying more for sure.

And here are some pictures of my model. The gunwales are made from chilean Rauli, an excellent wood from Chile. Here you can find it as mouldings for carpentry.

Also y made and installed the tiller. Still missing something on the tip, i have to investigate a little more. I hope you like it.

Still some finishing to do. Next will make some belayings and hull fittings. I'm also designing the deck furniture.

    Alright see you next time.

    Keep the good modelling!

    Hello mates!

Thank you Cathead and Tim Holt for your comments and everyone for the likes.

Yes, i'm sure this pine is related to the araucarias that you have seen in Chile, although this species is brazilian, from the south, a much colder place than the rest of Brazil, so the wood is harder, similar to the chilean environment where the araucarias are found.

I saw your build, and i liked it. I complitly agree with you, this little ship deserves better. I liked the investigation you made about it, and what you found on Chapelle book. I have another book from Chapelle, named The Baltimore Clipper.

Of course the main subject is different, but when it talks about developement, it makes some comments about the Virgina Pilot Boats, and shows some paintings and a body plan too.

I hope this is useful. I think it is. I can see that the main mast, in both ships, seems to be a little more tilted than the foremast. Of course, no one saw this in Artesania Latina.

As for my model, i made some progress. Installed the thiller, made the nameplate, i made it from boxwood (buxus sempervirens). It is the first time i did it so i don't know about the resault. I hope you like it!!

Now i'm working on the taffrail, gunwale, and some deck furniture. That will come shortly, i promise.

    Hope you like the pictures.

Also made and installed the bowsprit.

    See you soon.

GioMun reacted to Tim Holt in Swift 1805 by Tim Holt - Artesania Latina - 1:50 - first build
Well I have not posted much this last few months, but have not been totally idle.  I've been exploring options for blocks as well as rope, with little packages from Syren, Crafty Sailor, Ropes of Scale, and Modeler's Sawmill showing up now and then.  The blocks, line and fittings that came with the kit sort of made me shudder compared to what one can build or buy.  The ones I've purchased are much much better.

The other thing I've been doing is reading and poring over various options for how to rig the model.  Given it's not based precisely on a real ship, and that the kit takes a lot of shortcuts, I've set a goal to perhaps build it a bit more realistically as I can.  The deck layout I'm working with is close to the Katy of Norfolk model, along with Steel's Virginia pilot boat as shown in Chapelle's The Search for Speed Under Sail.  I'm also using a lot of the Katy's instructions and plans as a guide for rigging.

So here's what I've done in the last week after this extended "thinking about it" phase.  There was a lot of experimenting and such before this , following the @Kevin Kenny method of challenges and learning where you keep making it until you like how it came out.  I could just hear that, "spot on" when I made something I liked

First, I joined the main mast and topmast with two soldered brass rings to hold them together.

    Dry fit of the rings...

Below is the brass blackened and in place, with eyes in place.  The two eyes on the bands actually go all the way through both masts to help give it some strength, and are glued in with epoxy.  Blackening is with Birchwood Casey, which I've found most effective if diluted with an equal part water.  Too strong and the etching rubs off too readily.

Next up, the bowsprit.  In truth to be more accurate the bulwarks should be minimal, with the bowsprit flush on the deck.  But to make it work keeping the higher bulwarks, I made a bitt to hold it in place.  In this dry-fit picture, ignore the bitt just aft the foremast hole - it was an experiment that I removed.

Additionally, I did some work on the deck furniture.  I kept the basic aft cabin design from the original kit, but scratch built a replacement as documented before.  And instead of a second forward cabin, I went with a main hatch plus a small forward hatch/grate and stack.

Here are two pictures of the deck arrangement with the new hatches and stack.  It's all just dry fit at the moment.

The main hatch is the fourth one I made before I liked the results.  That said it might be a bit too heavy but I'll keep it.

GioMun got a reaction from catopower in Le Coureur by GioMun - FINISHED - Scale 1/48 - using Jean Boudriot's monograph
    Hello!

It's been a long time since i posted the last time. Actually it was in the old fórum.
In these last years i'm been building the lougre Le Coureur. It has been my first Arsenal model, so it took a lot of mistakes, and time to figure out how to keep doing it.
One of the first "issues" to resolve was the clinker built planking, wich it came out how you see it in the pictures. Then, every step was taken very carefully, triyng to keep as "arsenal" as posible. I even had to remove the white paint on the hull, because i didn't like the effect achieved.
Fortunatly, the Boudriot gives every explenation of what you need, and thanks to Mr. Delacroix, and the guys on his fórum, i could find a lot of answers too.
And of course here too! That's why i'm presenting you this model, wich some of you may remember from the old fórum, and for those that are knowing it for the first time, i hope you like it.
Today my LC it is about to get finished, so i post picutres in chronological order to undrstand how the construction was made. And i'll be happy to keep you informed, if you are interested of course, of the finishing of this project.
I hope you join my adventure!

    So, pictures......
