Could it be the number of letters in English versus German and the models scale ? FIRE versus Feuerlöschgerät

Yes that struck me as odd Veszett / Nils. It would be good to understand why.

    Hi Nils,

I know very little about the German Merchant Marine, so it might be false question, but:
Didn't the FIRE boxes has to be Feuerlöschgerät or something similar? They sign the boxes English instead of German?

Although I would definitely recommend buying the Accessory Pack (or 2) from Byrnes, the insert screws are #2-56 1/4" and available from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073RC5LJC).

    Hello friends of fine wood,
Unfortunately, some kits include zinc castings.
Now I have read somewhere on the net that this can also be burnished. With red wine.
I myself replace such parts with my own wooden ones, but I have played around a bit for you. Simply place the corresponding component in said red wine. After about 20 hours, the wine will lose its effect. If the part is still not dark enough, add another bottle.
As at the wine festival, if it's not dark enough, have another spritzer.
You can also tell by the fact that the wine then starts to foam.
After the second bath, the windlass I was trying out wasn't as dark as it is now. But it will darken in the air in a few days.
A little wax polish on it and it looks quite respectable

It may take some digging, but it is generally possible to find out who designed a particular kit, even if that info is not available at the publisher's website.

I thought that might be the case, but you only find out after you've bought the kit. Whereas Philipp more or less suggests finding out before hand.

The booklets have the name of the designer in them.

How do you do this?  I could have easily missed something, but I've looked at the Orel website and at some of the models and couldn’t see any reference as to the designer.

I haven’t built the Orel kits of the Orel, the Mikasa or Le Redoutable yet.  They are on my soon to build list though.

The templates for the railings didn’t look the easiest to use, but I’m overall looking forward to the builds.

I’m used to scratch building from card anyway, which actually gave me fits when building Solferino.

But, overall I don’t think the railings will slow me down too much.

I have AAMM plans for the 90-gun steam battleship Le Napoleon and the battleship La Hoche in the same or similar scale (1/192 for Le Napoleon) too.

The museum at Portsmouth, I believe it’s now called the Royal Navy Museum used to have a full sized realistic figure of Admiral Nelson in his full dress uniform.  It was arranged so you didn’t see it until you came around a corner.  It was quite startling.  He appeared to be much smaller than we usually visualize such heroic people.

Maybe a Lady Hamilton to keep him company? 😀

Page for the launches are now live:

24′ and 26′ Launches (3D printed hulls) – VANGUARD MODELS

    26 foot – 123 long x 37 mm wide - £29.00
    24 foot – 112mm long x 34.5 wide - £27.00

Each mini kit has three 3-d printed parts and one sheet of 0.8mm pear laser cut parts.

I am very happy to have started to produce these, and the forthcoming boat types. I remember the choices always being pretty slim (to put it mildly) for pre made hulls, usually having to settle for some generic type that was always too much of a compromise - and I also know that many have trouble, or do not like the plank on bulkhead mini kits. I am hoping these will help fill a gap...

The observer's position is complete. These are the last views anyone will see before it gets zipped up.

After this, anyone wanting to get a good closeup look will need to use an endoscope. 😑

It's late teens/early 20's this weekend here in the south of England CDW, positively balmy for us Brits. That was yesterday though.. Today riding to and from the museum was in heavy rain and thunderstorms. A mixed weekend weather wise. The museum was fantastic and there are some lovely bikes here. We all meet up twice a year for a long weekend, it's always a great trip whatever the weather.

Seeing the riders in short sleeves, I take it the weather is warm this time of year in your country, James. Here in the USA, in my home state of Florida, it's outright hot. Work too many hours in this heat, dehydration and a sun stroke could result.
A great museum and some beautiful bikes in your photos.

Currently on a motorbike weekend in the south of England with some mates and today some of us visited the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovil. Actually very good with lots of interesting planes and helicopters...

And they had a Corsair with I took quite a few photos of, hopefully useful when I build mine. Recommended visit if you're ever in the vicinity.

And for those of you interested in the bikes we have various models and ages of Yamaha's, Aprilla, Triumph, BMW, Suzuki, Ducati, Kawasaki's, Honda and Moto Guzzi...

Have not had as much time the last week or so for this build, and I've been doing a lot of small but time consuming things on the build.  So I'll just show a couple more pictures of the body which now has some detail paint....chrome trim around windows, flat black around the openings for the bonnet, trunk, engine cover.  Oh, and I also fitted those bits on the vents.  It went ok with some sanding down and some filler, but I really should have done that before painting the body.

Worked on other projects this week, but one of those projects was about all I want to know about the subject...installed a new door gasket on a front load washing machine. Man, that thing gave me a workout. I count my blessings it was indoor work. The heat/heat index has been ridiculously hot this week.
All week I looked forward to today. There was a model car show in a neighboring county, and I showed up bright and early to see the model cars and vendors. Walked off with a few nice kits and took a lot of photos of the model car entries. A nice venue and a large crowd supported the show. I did not enter any models in this show because that requires you stay the entire day. I didn't feel like hanging out there all day long.
