  1. Without question your model is quite impressive, and the accompanying build log is a tour de force on scratch building a plank-on-frame model.  They are an awesome achievment!  Thanks a ton for the many hours of instruction you provided.  Any model that I build will be better for what I learned on your build log.  Yes, I too am wondering what your next project will be.  Whatever it is it will no doubt be great.  Once again, THANKS!

  2. Dan,

You've got to be close to the finish line on this model.  How much more is left?   Your build log is one beautifully illustrated course in scratch building a POF model.  It's a masterpiece!  What a wonderful gift it is to the model shipbuilding world.  Like so many other modelers I've learned an awful lot from it,  and each time I read it, and that has to be several times already, I learn even more.  I'm really looking forward to seeing the photos you'll post of the finished Vulture.  It should be awesome!

Most powered vessels don't really interest me much, but I have to say this build caught my eye.  Yes, I will be following your progress.  So far it looks great.  I love the pictures of the ship you posted, the actual ship and your work,  and look forward to seeing more from you as you progress on the model.  Good luck with the build.

  4. Mark    I know first hand how much you can agonize when doing the spiling.  It's important to do it right if the run of the planking is to have that proper look.  Believe me when I say I feel your pain.  As I read the posts on your build log I'm struck with how sage like Dan (shipmodel) is when he says that the measurement between strakes and battens, while important, are just a starting point.  Battens are continually adjustable guides and not rigid inflexable borders.  Furthermore he said trust your eyes in conjunction with the battens.  He gives GOOD advise.  Doing this work, to some extent, is feel.  I always found I had to play around with the tape a good deal to get through this process and have it look right.  Stay with it friend, you'll find the answer.
