Mark I know first hand how much you can agonize when doing the spiling. It's important to do it right if the run of the planking is to have that proper look. Believe me when I say I feel your pain. As I read the posts on your build log I'm struck with how sage like Dan (shipmodel) is when he says that the measurement between strakes and battens, while important, are just a starting point. Battens are continually adjustable guides and not rigid inflexable borders. Furthermore he said trust your eyes in conjunction with the battens. He gives GOOD advise. Doing this work, to some extent, is feel. I always found I had to play around with the tape a good deal to get through this process and have it look right. Stay with it friend, you'll find the answer. Tom -

Toni, I'm sorry to hear you may have to put your dog to sleep. As a dog owner I know that's the hardest thing to do, but it's the ultimate gesture of love shown to your pet. You never want to see them suffer. I don't look forward to the day when I will have to make that decision for my dog Toby.

Hi gigantesco, This was the first day I've looked at your build log, but had the opportunity to read all of it. What an ambitious project you've undertaken. Progress on your Victory model is looking good. I really liked your building board and the tiered jig you devised to hold the frames in place. Very nice!

Sherry I'm very impressed with your work. I would have never thought of using paper to make cannons, but you pulled it off quite nicely. You get bonus points for thinking outside of the box.
