  1. Marsalv This is the first time I've peeked into your Pandora build log, and I have to say I'm impressed with your start. I will surely follow along. The Porcupine class vessels really do have nice lines. It's too bad there aren't any drawings showing more than minimal stern decorations of those ships as completed. Tom
  2. Oh yes, we have another Remco post. That's always nice. Tom
  3. Without question your model is quite impressive, and the accompanying build log is a tour de force on scratch building a plank-on-frame model. They are an awesome achievment! Thanks a ton for the many hours of instruction you provided. Any model that I build will be better for what I learned on your build log. Yes, I too am wondering what your next project will be. Whatever it is it will no doubt be great. Once again, THANKS!
  4. You forgot you made the capstan bars? LOL Well, I suppose that's understandable considering you had a MOUNTAIN of things you had to make for this build. Still, it strikes me funny you would forget that. Tom
  5. Lee, Yes, I have to agree with Nils that this is one of my favorite build logs to follow. Your posts have a big following for good reason.... because the Alert is one sweet build!
  6. Mark It looks like all that work redoing the planking astern has worked out nicely. You got some good advice from a number of people and the result is MUCH BETTER looking. You should be proud of what you did. Well done friend!
  7. Way to go Chuck, it's good to see you get your log up and running. Best wishes to you in your Providence build. Tom
  8. Big project Karl! I think I will pull up a chair, pop open a cold beer, and follow along with the others as you build this 3rd rate. This should be interesting. Good luck with this big boy! Ok, where's the popcorn? MTaylor, I hope you're not hogging the bowl again. ;-) Tom
  9. Michael I peeked in and I think I'll pull up a chair as this build looks like it should be very interesting. I'm more than a little curious to see how a Danish frigate differs from a French or English one. Tom
  10. Dan, You've got to be close to the finish line on this model. How much more is left? Your build log is one beautifully illustrated course in scratch building a POF model. It's a masterpiece! What a wonderful gift it is to the model shipbuilding world. Like so many other modelers I've learned an awful lot from it, and each time I read it, and that has to be several times already, I learn even more. I'm really looking forward to seeing the photos you'll post of the finished Vulture. It should be awesome! Tom
  11. SOS I always have a place in my heart for those that do a model using the horizonal bread and butter method. Despite the fact it's so labor intensive and makes such a mess it has been my favoite way to build a hull. I'm glad I peeked into your build log and will surely follow your progress. Best wishes! Tom
  12. Paul It's a fun build to follow. Keep those pics coming. Tom
  13. Nils Most powered vessels don't really interest me much, but I have to say this build caught my eye. Yes, I will be following your progress. So far it looks great. I love the pictures of the ship you posted, the actual ship and your work, and look forward to seeing more from you as you progress on the model. Good luck with the build. Tom
  14. Mark I knew those were unglued planks. My question could have been better stated. It should have read: Those strakes look like they are full width at the counter. Do you need to taper them and if so will you reinstall battens. My bad.
  15. Now that you have the planks to lay better on the hull are you going to go back and replace the battens and taper the strakes for final fitting and attachment? Tom
  16. This is one of my favorite build logs to follow. Lee, I really like how your Alert is coming along.
  17. Mark, re-doing anything is not fun, but sometimes it's absolutely necessary. Not only will this look much better but you will also have peace of mind. Batten down the hatches and weather the storm. There is smooth sailing ahead. Tom
  18. Alex, you can build an enormous amount of detail into large scale models and you didn't miss anything in the Cumberland. The pics you provided are wonderful. It's a fabulous example of model shipbuilding. Stunning! Tom
  19. Beautiful Dan, but we've come to expect this from you. That's what master modelers do. What an educational build log! Thanks for sharing.
  20. Lee, it's always a treat when you post. I love following your build. Question: What glue do you use and how do you blacken it? Do you add lamp black powder? Paint? Thanks Tom
  21. It looks great Alex....no, FANTASTIC! Would you please walk us through your blackening process. (how and what you clean with ,what you use to blacken, ratios of chemicals used, duration of exposure etc. etc.) Thanks. Tom
  22. Hello Remco While I might be new to the MSW forum and don't follow too many build logs yet this is one I do look at. I'm always excited when there's a new post from you. It is masterful craftsmanship and such a delight to see! Tom
  23. Paul Being relatively new to MSW I haven't had the time to follow a lot of build logs, but today I was able to sit down and completely go through yours of the Salamandre. What a nice build you have going, and to such a huge scale! Thanks for sharing with us. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Tom
  24. Beautiful workmanship Alex! There is so much about this model that's eyecatching. It's just gorgeous..... a 3rd rate that's first rate!
  25. Make your own miniature chain! WOW! That takes the cake. Druxey's question is good ..... couldn't you buy it?
