Jack,
Next time you go ask someone, it's not easy to find without asking. I found it at Home Depot by luck, only because I was looking for something else LOL.

WackoWolf got a reaction from trippwj in Hobbyzone building slip for wooden ship models
Just order it from there web site and use PayPal smart pay. Had no problems, don't know why it's not working for you. Cost me $75.95 total. When I went to the site the price was $75.95, so they must have gone up on it by $10.00, but it was free shipping.

Wheel and deckhouse look good, Jack.
I understand your issues. We keep losing decent hobby shops around here, although I heard we are getting a HobbyLobby in July. Never been in one, yet.

Joe, Lawrence thanks for stopping by and your comments. And all those who clicked the LIKE button.
Joe: I have both Lowes and Home Depot close by but have never seen hobby sized lumber of any type in either of them. No ACE Hardwares near me.
Another small update: Wheel house and ship's wheel completed.

Jack,
You seem to live in a just as hobyshop poor environment as I do ... some basic materials are available, but when you need the real deal, it takes either an age in travelling time, or you need to get it shipped, and shipments aren't JIT delivery!
I've used the vallejo on the sea witch, but the kind for the airbrush, which works nice. I've got their metallic range for airbrush too, and will be trying that out one of these days. First get familiarised with the new H&S airbrush.
Cheers

Great work Mark! After making the Windows on my enterprise I have a feel for how difficult that is and yours are way more complicated than mine.
I too want to know how you did your casing and millions.

WackoWolf reacted to igorcap in Swedish Privater by igorcap - Chapman's frigate
A bit on the prototype and model.
In reality, such a ship was not built ever. This is one of concepts that developed F.Chapman on request the Swedish Government in 1765. He was given task to create an inexpensive heavy frigate, which would battle with the ship line, if necessary. Frigate had to meet the following specifications:
Dimensions Length 145' 6'' (imperial) Breadth 38' Draught Aft 17' Height of middle gunport above the water 6' 4'' L/B ratio 3.83 Armament 26*18-pounders, 12*6-pounders At least a decade ahead of it?s time when Chapman made the plans for this ship (the first french and british 18-pounder frigates were launched in the late 1770s). The guns are mounted on sliding carriages to reduce the number of men needed to operate them. In future, based on this concept F.Chapman built a series of heavy frigates type Bellona The model is built on the scale of 1/48 . Style of model should simulate naturally aged model of 18th century

WackoWolf reacted to Captain Al in Any difference between a 'riffler' file and a 'needle' file?
Good thought re. steel. I'll only use brass or maybe even just a stiff toothbrush. But what about the solvent idea? Does that have any place in the maintenance of files?

WackoWolf reacted to EJ_L in USS Constitution by MEPering - Model Shipways - 1:76.8 (5/32"=1'0") - First build
It is always kind of a nice shock when you take a moment to sit back and look at all the progress that has been made and the time involved. I always keep running time of actual hours spent working on my ship. I don't count research time though mostly because I'm not sure where to begin on that. I'm constantly reading articles, build logs, questions and answers, watching You Tube videos and talking to people about tips, tricks, facts, and ideas that it would be almost impossible to track that time. Time building a ship can be an interesting thing. I have some days when I spend 3 hours working on her and I can see a lot of progress planking. Then days like yesterday happen and I spent 5 hours working on canons and all I have are piles of parts waiting to be assembled.
The fact that you are taking your time and building correctly without taking shortcuts will benefit you in huge ways later on. There are no set time frames to these projects and as you are building for your own enjoyment there are no deadlines to meet. I would rather a ship take me years to complete so that I can look upon it with pride and not regret. Sure, there are always ways we can improve upon a model but improving skills is always a good thing. It's those shoulda, woulda, couldas that we eliminate by taking time.
You are doing a great job. Keep it up!

Aydin,
Wow, you took off quickly and nicely.
It's nice to see something more modern being built too.
The build slip looks really to be a good investment.
Sorry for not making the final at Eurovision Song Contest. I watch it over here in the USA.

Current status of the hull (most of the stuff is still dry-fitted):

Bottom pieces of the Stern board and a few details about the orientation of the pieces. The gaps and mis-alignements (which I have indicated in red brackets) are actually how they are supposed to be. I also circled them below on the instruction manual:
Finally the horizontal support piece has been glued and the Stern board is installed.
Here my build slip did not help much because of the angled orientation of the board.

Stern board: The challenge here is that you must keep everything dry-fit until you install it on the keel, mainly because the horizontal support (No 16) can be placed only after the board has been inserted on the keel. The parts kept falling all the time which was very irritating. Then I applied a "small" amount of glue on them until I have inserted it on the keel. Finally glued everything once they are in place.
The bottom pieces 17 and 18 are to be glued the last. I will have a separate post below about it. Now some photos of the Stern board:

Frame 14 has two sub pieces which makes it important to install in correct orientation. I used (x) marks to help prevent make a mistake when the moment o truth (i.e. gluing) comes.

Frames 10 and 11. This pair is a bit different than the others so far because they are connected with a horizontal reinforcement frame.
In the manual the suggested order goes as follows:
install frame 10 install frame 11 install horizontal reinforcement frame 49 close top of frame 11 (with 11A) install reinforcements for frame 11 I changed the order a bit, instead first I built the frame 11 totally with its reinforcements and top piece because I thought it would be hard to do them properly once the frames are in place. Maybe the reason the instructions go that way is that it would be difficult to install the horizontal piece once the frame 11 is closed from the top with 11A.
Anyway, I did it my way and faced no problems.
At this stage, everything is dry-fit (except the frame 11 components).
Note from the photos that the gap where the horizontal piece (49) is insterted to frame 11 is thicker than thickess of piece 49. How to actually install this piece takes a careful checking of the instructions. Installing the reinforcements 11B and 11C determines the final position of this insert.
Note that the horizontal piece is NOT parallel to the surface, instead it follows and angle.

Do you have a Lowe's or Home Depot near you. They have bass wood also. Also Ace Harware is another, never bought any there but they also carry it.
