  1. Brian: The planking looks good so far. As for the stealer, some filler made from sawdust and glue should take care of it. If you are going to paint the underbody, it will not really matter. Russ
  2. Fletch: It may be easier to take the material off now, but beware. It will not necessarily be more accurate. I strongly suggest that you wait until they are mounted to take any more off the filler blocks. It will be a trifle more awkward, but it will likely be more accurate since you will be able to test fit the planks as you fair the blocks. Just my advice. I have been down this road before on my own models. Russ
  3. Clark: The stern framing looks good so far. The filler blocks are coming along, but pay close attention to their shape. They may look close, but they will need much more work after they are fitted to the hull. You will have to test some planking strips over them to see exactly how much material will come off, but this will be time well spent. Test a plank, then sand, test again, then sand again, and so forth. It will take some work after they are fitted to make sure the planking flows over them as it comes up to the stern. I have seen this before in other builds of this kit. A little extra time spent making sure those filler blocks are properly shaped will make for a much easier planking job later on. Russ
  4. John: The planking looks great. The lines of the hull are really coming out. She is beautiful. Russ
  5. Elia: Thanks for the kind words. I know they look awful right now, but as you say, they will be painted and that will help push them into context. What really makes these work is the bolts and nuts from Scale Hardware. I have already laid in a stock of various size bolt and nut combinations for a future larger scale build. Russ
  6. John: Thanks. It is tight quarters for soldering. The bolts are .5mm in diameter and the nuts can be difficult to deal with, but once you get the hang of it, they work very well. Much better than gluing the pins for sure. Russ
  7. Thanks everyone for the kind words and the likes. Dave, wish I had known you were coming through. Russ
  8. Finally, an update. I have been wrestling with the chainplates and deadeye strops. These are still just hanging there, not yet aligned and permanently attached. The assemblies will be painted white. They are rather rough looking, but they are an improvement as far as scale size. I have been working on getting the pieces down to something close to scale, and also how to connect the strops and the chainplates. Note the bolt and nut used to connect the strop and the chainplate. These are from Scale Hardware. Russ
  9. Very nicely done. Congratulations. One of the great things about these models is that they go together rather quickly. One of the bad things about these models is that they go together rather quickly. Russ
  10. Fletch: Regarding the plans vs the framing pieces in the kit, I would say that you should build the model and not worry as much about whether the bulkheads match the plans. If you get the hull faired as it is, you will be okay. Russ
  11. The spacing of the frames looks good. They do not need to be or have to be exactly spaced. Close makes them appear uniform. This hull should be stiffening up quite well by now. The rest of the details add a lot without a great deal of effort. Nice work. Russ
  12. Fletch: I think what you are talking about is the bevel line for each bulkhead on the plan. Now, I thought you were saying that the outside line of the bulkheads on the plan were asymmetrical. Is that not the case? Russ
  13. These little boats can come together very quickly once you get into the details. Very nice work on those bent frames. Russ
