  1. So far it looks good. Once you begin fairing, it will seem like it will never end, but if it is done well, the planking will be so much easier as a result. Russ
  2. Bluejacket Shipcrafters sells a blackening solution that I have used for over ten years. Works well. They are a MSW sponsor and you can find their advert on the forums page. Russ
  3. The final assembly of the deadeyes and chainplates looks good. Nice job. Russ
  4. Getting the run of the planks on the bulwarks is necessary. If it is not done right, you can tell. The eye will catch it. Good job with the clamps. Russ
  5. Carl: Thanks. It has already been sanded some, but before paint, it will get a little more careful sanding. Russ
  6. Kenneth: Thanks. This has been a good project and I would not have missed it for anything, but the next schooner model, hopefully Julia Delacruz, will be at 1/24 scale. Deadeyes at 1/16" diameter are very trying so it will be a lot easier working at the larger scale. Russ
  7. Your rigging looks really good. Nice work in such a small scale. Russ
  8. Elia, Sam, and Michael: Thanks for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Thanks to those who clicked the like button as well. Russ
  9. The model looks very good so far. Your fittings look just fine. The water barrel and the bands on the bowsprit look especially good. Great work. Russ
  10. Here is a little more progress. I managed to make the wheel box today. Not too bad, but it still needs some sanding now that I look at the hi res photos. Russ
  11. Shimming the entire outer surface of the bulkhead should not make that much more work and I think it will be easier to fair things out if you have a little meat on the bone as opposed to having a lot of low spots. I always like to cut my framing a little fat and then work it down. Russ
  12. If all the bulkheads are level wit the curve of the profile former at the deck, then shimming along the underbody is all I can think of to get them evened out so you can fair the hull. Russ
  13. She looks very good so far. Very neat paint work. Great work. Russ
  14. Okay, we are looking at the termination of the topmast shrouds and the bottom ends of the topgallant shrouds. The foremost two shrouds on each side will be one line with an eye splice to fit around the mast and the shrouds go on with the two starboard shrouds first and the two port shrouds second. The aftermost shroud will be one line with an eye splice and the shrouds go to either side. If there are cross trees above, then it will work just like what you have at the topmast. Probably no ratlines on the topgallant shrouds. Russ
  15. The ratlines look good. As for the other shrouds, an illustration of some sort would be helpful. I am not sure I know what you mean. Russ
  16. Dave: Thanks for the kind words. However, they are obviously cleaner and sharper in the photograph than in real life. I will say that making the half lap joints was enjoyable. Just me, a few hand tools, and the wood. They are not perfect, but it was a great way to pass a few hours. Russ
