Thank you all for the positive input, likes, advice and the quick responds !!
..Special thanks to Nigel for the link to the “original?” plans of the ST..

As it seems the entry port is now on hold as there’s no such one in the drawings
But something else has now my attention !!

So this might be the next challenge I will work on, "my carving talent"   ..

    Hi everyone,

    Firstly happy New Year (:-)

Taking a break from building the channels I thought that the perpendicular anchor catheads would be good time filler. As you note, this small update is just a starting point. That timber is wrong as well.

Ouch, on the view from on the weather deck pic you can see two small holes just to the right of the cathead timber. These two pilot holes I drilled to determine the height, as it would come through on the weather deck. Well, I drilled these from the outside of the hull and grrrrr, they were in the wrong place.

I should know better than to work in the shipyard only one day after New Year's Eve.

PS: As you can see in the first pic the 1:1 at one time had those mounted, but no longer. Maybe it was a weight issue?

    Michael

    PiratePete,

Are you the author of the build manuals on Euromodel's website?  If so, a big thank you!  I downloaded them yesterday, and was very impressed.

    Vince,

Congratulations!  If the Royal William is anything like the Friedrich Wilhelm, I'm sure you were very impressed with the materials and the plans of the kit.  I have a few kits now, and almost wish that I had stuck with Euromodel kits.  I'm excited to follow your build, if you decide to post a build log.

    Nigel,

Congratulations on the Mordaunt!  That looks like another fantastic kit.  Hope you post a build log

I ordered the Euromodel Royal William from "Ages of Sail", 5 days ago and it was delivered yesterday! That has got be a record, since it took 6 months to get the Sovereign of the Seas. Anyway, it looks like an impressive project and I am impressed with the quality of the parts and the plans. There was one broken part in the box and I E-mailed the Euro helpline. Once again, they replied in a half hour and this time all the way from Italy. They said they would be glad to replace it, but that the small piece broken off would not make a difference since it had to be trimmed anyway and was an internal part that would not be exposed. They gave me the choice. I told them I would work with it and if it did need replacing I would contact them back. I really am impressed with this company so far.  Once I finish on my SOS, which should be in about 2 weeks, I will start another build log for this one.

    Hi Ulises
This is the first time I have looked through your log and I have to say great work!! the attention to detail and care you are putting into the rope work is fantastic.Balancing the tension of some of those lines is not easy but you have mastered it with great precision.
    Kind Regards Nigel

thanks for all your replies. I think I'll do the first layer the "easy" way and then have a go at something more authentic for the second.
Doubtless I'll be back with more questions!

Main deck is now attached to the hull - so in reality, in two months i have built 7 pieces, but a lot of the superstructure is built up, and i detail it as i go along

Next i have to add all the port hole PE and steeps, then prime the hull and main deck, i know the decking goes over it but a lot shows through, so will save doing it later

Another small update.Got the rest of the gunport lids installed.Darkened the shiny brass cannons with a thinned black wash - didn`t want to blacken them as I`m pretty sure they were made of bronze. The wash seems to have given them a somewhat rustic look.

The initial picture looks great Are you building the suspense up by a 'slow' reveal   ?Quite justifiable as this appears to be the most talked about carving on the ship
Happy New Year to you and your family buddy

    Adding the False Deck

Finishing the first layer of planking

For the second layer of planking I selected and cut some darker Walnut wood for contrast on the wales.

I soaked the planks in a 50/50 mix of ammonia and water, then bent the planks and glued after drying.

Finish planking of lower hull using mahogany strips

I veneered the keel with lighter mahogany wood and then I sanded and coated the entire Hull with a satin sanding sealer

Framed the gun ports and added the partial carriages

Overlap the upper planks near the stern

    Hi Patrick
The hull is invariably caulked the same as the deck.I always use a pencil on one plank edge on my builds, where the area of hull is not to be painted.

Nigel, I just have to try and see if I can make the thingie. Ill start right away.
