Landrotten Highlander reacted to Matt D in HMS Tiger 1747 by Siggi52 - 1:48 - 60 gun ship from NMM plans
It looks like cheating to have that little guy paint your model for you. He’s doing an amazing job for you.

Landrotten Highlander reacted to Siggi52 in HMS Tiger 1747 by Siggi52 - 1:48 - 60 gun ship from NMM plans
Hello again,
after such a long time, I'm back at the ship yard. The wether outside is dark and rainy, so I did't mis anything in the basement. First I started with the plans. When I was ready drawing the pumps, I thought it would be a good idea just to build them.
Here are the plans, I draw the red lines to mark the hatch ways at each plan. Because the sheer plan is not always identical with the decks plans, I have to stay with the sheer plan.
And here are the chain pumps, here in white
and here fresh painted
The next project would be the elm pumps.

Landrotten Highlander reacted to AON in HMS Bellerophon 1786 by AON – scale 1:64 – 74-gun 3rd Rate Man of War - Arrogant-Class
Did not get to the shop yesterday or today.
Had a crew over removing my eaves troughs and fascia. Expected them back today to install the new, deeper, with leaf guard system... of course they didn't show up.
Worked on and printed a set of gears for my future rope walk.
They turned out quite good.
Then I worked on my 3D 9 pound gun carriage. It is presently printing in wood filament. It is quite small so I am not sure how it will turn out.
Could get the filament to feed through the 0.2mm nozzle so changed it to a 0.3mm nozzle and it seems to be working so far.
Nothing much yet to see on the printer so here is the slicer program image.

Landrotten Highlander reacted to AON in HMS Bellona 1760 by SJSoane - Scale 1:64 - English 74-gun - as designed
Seems the foot or bottom of the column is pocketed into the deck (hidden or dashed lines below the top surface of the deck in the image).
The head or top also is recessed into the beam from one side allowing it to slide out once the beam is lifted.

I had six square frames installed... had to remove five of them and then alter my bow and stern supports as they were wandering again.
The Plexiglas inserts that slide into the notches was out of square. I had secured it once before but apparently it didn't hold.
This time I added a brace across the top, and then drilled and screwed the sides.
It will never move again.
The frames are back up and aligned properly.
The next four frames are underway.

Landrotten Highlander reacted to Kevin in HMS Enterprise by Kevin - CAF - 1/48 - August 2020
good morning everyone
Day 47
i had a long discussion with the dog, he understands me more, and listens more than the wife, and treenailing came up, coctail sticks wasnt going to work on the lower deck, but the illusion was required
so holes were drilled, and light wood paste was used rubbed in, allowed to dry and sanded, fo far we have come up with this, the lower deck support is just going back in

Landrotten Highlander reacted to Jeronimo in 74 Gun Ship by Jeronimo - 1/36 - Modified to Cross-Sections
Hello Alan.
French naval cannons in the 18th century were so rigged.
The thick (red marked) rope in picture 1 caught the recoil of the cannon with the mount.
Mark commented that correctly. Thanks a lot for this.
regards
Karl

Landrotten Highlander reacted to Schrader in Byblos by Schrader - FINISHED - 1:32 - Egyptian Seagoing Ship
Hello all......
I already brought the diorama Base......
The idea is to build a dry dock “simulation...... and in the back side I’ll build a “wall” simulating the Sahure King tomb (. Let’s remember that the “Byblos ship pictures were found in his tomb).....
Well...... I went to the “odonthology” method.... and using the PLASTER CASTING material I created the “wall”..... but first I took the drawing from Landstrom book, imported to Autocad and created a full picture with 25 cm long....
Then I put it over the “wall” and with carbon paper I reproduced the image over it.....
Created the “stones”.....
And started to carving all these “details”.....
It is going to be a long way before it is finished....

Landrotten Highlander reacted to Louie da fly in 10th-11th century Byzantine dromon by Louie da fly - FINISHED - 1:50
Ok, the model itself is finished, and now I've done the stand. The wooden part, painted gold, was done ages ago. The base is made of a piece from a broken slab of marble that was in the garden when we bought the house. Marble - Byzantium; of course they belong together!
I was going to paint a fairly elaborate decorative border - vines curling around and all that. Then I decided the focus should be on the ship, not the stand, so I've kept it simple. Just the description and date in a readable font.
Unfortunately after all the work I did on carving that beautiful golden stand, it's almost invisible behind the oars.
