another quick update. a dry fitting of the paddle. still needs some excess glue taken care of and a coat or two of matt clear to finish. the actual red color doesn't look anywhere as bright irl.

some more updates. stuck the next deck on using the tried and true flattening method

more work on the main passenger staircase leading up to the new deck and also began lower posts and rails. also began planking the next level cabins.

Hey Dave, the nails are actually false nails. What I did was first cut the blades to length. Then got a heap of old bent planking nails from previous builds and cut them down to about 1mm in length. Next I carefully lined up the blades on the wheels and marked where the nails would go. Then I drilled a tiny (very tiny in fact) hole and just tapped the cut-down nails into the blades. When they were all in, I gave the blades a few coats of matt clear, which further helps stick the nails into the blade, then line up the finished blades on the wheel and just glue them on. The nails therefore don't actually penetrate the spokes at all. They are only there for looks. I like the way they turned out, but it was pretty fiddley to do.

    Cheers

Great looking model. You just need a pile of scale "road apples" in the horse pens to finish it.

thanks gents    .......I gave it a shot.   it was suggested to me,  to sit down with a model and lose myself in it.    instead I replaced the radiator in our car.  I yam undaunted.  something else will come along.......you betcha!

Friday........I did some of the structure planking for the second and third levels.   if I could multitask.......I'da given the second level deck a lacquer coat.   before I could do the planking,  I needed to cement in place,  the opposite end panel.  I still need to cut out the windows on the other end.

I soaked this one for a short time...didn't break like the other one.   after sanding it to a rounded appearance,  the planking started.

note the plank on the far left.......the first one.  it's lifting....something I dreaded.  I will do something to hold the edge down,  but I think I'll resort to using narrower planking on the ends.  it will navigate the curvature much better.   the third level was an after thought.......it's the same shape....why not!

I started just shy of the turn....that way I could start the narrower planking without too much of a bump.   I was also mindful of the tabs too....not leaving as much to trim away after.  so I cut the two wood piles...

changing over to the narrower planking,  I continued with the third level.  we had run an errand,  which gave this time to dry.  lengths were cut in half to go around the windows.

....and finding a good place to return to the regular planking,  I kept going around the other side.

trimming these structures is going to be a nightmare.....I can feel it.   it will get even more interesting when I begin on the windows and doors     I should finish off the coral gates......

I'm in on this one Dave after your magnificent build of the Grand Banks. Great idea to upgrade to the wooden lifeboat to I reckon.

some more progress. have finally finished and fitted the starboard side louvre shutters to the windows. this whole structure has now been glued into place. have made a start on the second deck balustrades as well as the passenger ladders leading up to the next deck. also have planked the next deck level and made a start on the underside stiffening boards. here this is just dry fitted to try to get the correct alignment. next step, hopefully in the next few days, will be to glue this deck into place, position the access ladders for both the passengers and aft crew ladders.

Update 😁!  The bounty is looking quite different now...even though the majority of the last weeks I’ve spent not actually working on my bounty. The majority was spent puppy proofing my shipyard for a new member of the family
but anyhow in the last couple of days this is what I have done to the bounty carved out the rudder...this was so satisfying to make and I’m really happy with how it came out. these rudder hinges weren’t the nicest to work with. Quite brittle...oh well I’ll remember to order more next time...and I managed 😁I painted well er textered the wales. It was very nervous risky work with a permanent marker...but I took precautions. I’m happy with the deep Matt black color painting the waterline was tricky...the wales make it hard/impossible to properly put down tape to give u a clean waterline. But again, I managed! I went with 3 coats of a white acrylic from modelers central that is supposedly especially for model ships...I’m not sure...I don’t know anything about paints. Speaking of paints if anyone could tell me what they think of airbrushing compared to paintbrushing I’d be delighted to hear? If it is a better quality paint job I’d consider it for my next model.  then I went with boiled linseed oil for the rest of the timber...let me know your honest thoughts guys. I don’t mind it at all, but am eager to hear other opinions.
With regards to the color scheme as a whole that I’ve gone with I realize that it’s not entirely historicaly acurate. And I’m usually a big stickler for that sort of thing...but in the end the desire to show off some timber with a nice finish or 2 got the better of me. Besides I tell myself that the bounty could of looked like this before the Royal Navy bought her when she was a merchant ship 😃...who knows.

and finally...attached the chains to the rudder to the ship. And now it’s on to some of the furniture and fittings on the deck! ...this is gonna be heaps fun!

So, after what seems like an eternity, I have got the shutters on the Port side windows. Each shitter contains about 35 individual pieces They tend to show up a bit dodgy in the pics, but in real life I am really happy with them. again at this point this structure is just sitting there as its way easier to glue the shutters on beforehand.. also the next deck is just sitting there as well.
