  1. That's beautiful! I tried building one a LONG time ago and ran into problems with it. I can't recall exactly what the problems were but they caused me to put everything on hold and I never got back around to finishing it. This makes me want to try another build now. Nice work Jav!
  2. I started the spoked wheel/s construction as outlined here: This is the beginning of lacing the rear wheel and where I will resume progress photos in the future:
  3. Somewhere back when, I failed to keep progress photos of the frame and engine construction but here is where it stands as of today.
  4. Thanks! I'm really looking forward to following your build. I know you're going to do a fantastic job of it. Tell me again, which version will you be doing?
  5. The newer molds are much better than the early ones, but they still have some obstacles to overcome, and I am speaking specifically about their 1:48 A-26 Invader series which are the latest of their new issues I am familiar with. Their new/er HE-111 builds out beautifully as can be seen right here on this forum. I'm guessing and hoping all at the same time these new Marauders will be sweet. Mentioning air bases here in Tampa, MacDill being the most well known (and still operational), there was also Drew Field, a huge airbase back around the WW2 days. There are still many old quonset huts scattered all about the area being employed by various commercial businesses these days along with many of the wooden frame structures as well. Our national guard armory has lots of equipment stashed there still. Tampa International Airport is adjacent to this old airfield. Then there was a third military airfield in the Busch Gardens area and remnants of the runways still remain. One of my old RC airplane clubs used to fly from those runways a few decades ago.
  6. Has anyone else noticed that ICM is coming out with a new mold 1:48 B-26 Marauder? 1/48 ICM B-26B Marauder WWII US Bomber - PREORDER - Squadron.com
  7. Hey wait a second!!! Why is this thread marked finished? Arthur hasn't even started yet and he started the thread for both of us.
  8. Blackburn Buccaneer S.2D No. 809 Naval Air Squadron, HMS Ark Royal, August 1978 Time for me to put a bow on it and call this one done, finished. Airfix has produced a very nice kit of a subject covered once before in 1:48 scale by Airfix but not nearly as nicely done in this new release. Light years better than the old mold. It's been a lot of fun and I am looking forward to a RAF Desert Storm edition as it appears they intend to release one later on from what I see on the sprues of this kit. Looking forward also to Andrew's build. Thanks for following along and for all the comments, likes, and helpful information that was shared.
  9. Check out that pointy data link pod. Very unusually shaped pod I have not seen on other aircraft. Pointed in the front and bulbous in the rear. I'll show better photos of it tomorrow or when I'm finished.
  10. Canopy got masked and painted. Weapons and pylons got painted. Need to finish with decals on the TV Martel missiles and pylons. Everything needs a varnish to seal in the decals. Canopy is posed in place no glue for now until varnish is done. Also need to add navigation beacon and front LG light. After all that, should be able to call this finished. @AJohnson pay close attention to your weapons pylons and the holes in the wings to mount them for your particular version choice. The pin/hole spacing on the outboard pylons is incorrect for the "A" version I chose. Not a big deal but easier to deal with before the wings are assembled.
  11. A missile color conundrum: The Airfix color call-outs for the missiles show a ghost gray for the Martel anti-radar missile while the TV Martel anti-ship missile does not get a color call-out but instead is shaded the same color as the aircraft, dark sea gray. If I look up the Martel missiles on the net and view images of them, I see them in a shade of green, maybe it could be called gray green. See here: or alternatively both missile types can be seen as a ghost gray but no photos I have seen shown them as dark sea gray as seen in the Airfix chart. Any ideas? I am ready to get this thing finished and don't want to get wrapped around the axle here for this rather minor detail.
  12. I think at least some of the Buccaneers carried sidewinders in Desert Storm. I remember mine being modeled that way carrying a pod, smart bombs, and sidewinders. RAF version though.
  13. Did the Buccaneer typically fly with fighter escort? No defensive weapons on my Buc version.
  14. I found and ordered that kit on Ebay from a seller in Estonia...$38 plus postage. Now I'm thinking about this to go with it: Black Dog 1/48 Engine & Folding Tail for Wessex UH-5 Helicopter (Italeri) A48172 | eBay
  15. Weird how that is about ugly aircraft. Sometimes ugly makes them all the more attractive for some odd reason. Unique for sure as I can't think of anything else that looks like a Gannet, and the sheer size of it. Maybe the Wyvern is kinda-sorta like it. It's another ugly aircraft that's beautiful at the same time.
  16. I already dropped a preorder on it at Hannants after it was posted here.
