Hi Tom, The tunrbuckles were easy I took 3 /32" Brass tubbing cut 5" lenghths (Scale) then I took earings ( or I shoud say earring making pieces from bead Landing you can get them at Michaeles) and cut the loops off ( the dia. fits perfect in the tubes ) then soldered them in place . I then cleaned them up with sand paper. they are ready for installation.

    Best Regards,
    Pete

This evening I went downstairs earlier ( at the risk of nagging why I didn't water flowers) because I want to have a time to do something before Game of Thrones.

One more idea bumped to my head about riveting tool, and I want to try it. This time, lined needles without heads, glued with superglue in wooden holder

And here are tests with yesterday made rivet tool, today made tool, and made with hand pricking with one needle as on first tests I made

Conclusion - with rounded tool, line is much visible than a rivets. With needle tool - nedlees are not in line, so I can make better line with one needle and my sense
And decision was made - to start (finaly)

And I started, and this are first appointed "cooper" strips 4x10 mm, riveted manually each one. I chose that dimension of slices to assume riveting, and to be small enough as much similar to the scale it can be

    Not bad.

There is macro photo, of details.

But, in this scale, when I am watching whole model from usual distance, rivets are not visible individually. But - riveting , in my opinion, will give some kind of soul to whole project of "coopering" Her hull. A little bit of changing of light reflection, or ... I do not know what exactly or I have no words to describe... but I am definitively sure that riveting must be done on her dress

Her Majesty is quiet for now, taking her breath waiting to see how all of this will look like ...

Russ, one of the ways I have used for making brass stripping is to cement the sheet between two pieces of wood with contact cement. Then I would cut to width on my Preac. I have gotten down to 1/32 many times

Here is a second pass at the main deadeyes and chainplates. The chainplates are much better in that they are nearly right on the design width, about 3/64". The height of the deadeyes above the rail is good and they are just about equal in height. I think once the cap is in place and everything is painted, this approach will work. The key for me is to keep the chainplate width as close as possible to 3/64".

The main deadeyes and chainplates have been fabricated. I still need to make the cap over the edge of the railing. I am not sure if I will stick with these assemblies or give it another try. I am concerned about the inconsistent height of the deadeyes. Once the assemblies are painted, they will look okay, but....

Late tonight I decided to make a few more deadeyes and broke two consecutive pieces while making them. That told me to walk away and try again tomorrow.

    Hi Richard.
When pushing through make sure the push stick in between the blade and the fence.
Pushing from the none fence side will cause the timber to jam on the blade.
The fence will hold the timber true but as the cut is coming to the end the push will close the Kerf.

Can do a drawing better to explame what I am talking about.

    Regards Antony.

Hi all, I am back from a wonderful vacation, then sorry to say I spent the next 5 days in the hospital with pneumonia! Got released Thursday, but have felt so bad I have done nothing at all, just finally getting around today to doing all the laundry that accumulated, and I find that exhausting. To top it off, I woke up Saturday morning to a right hand that will not function normally, can't grip anything or move my thumb without causing intense pain. I am wondering if I contracted some sort of infection from the IV line that was placed in that hand, I guess I will have to go back to the doctor on Monday and see what is going on.
Vacation was good, saw a lot of beautiful sights and country, still have to say Colorado provides much more in the way of scenery than New Mexico. Had a bit too much excitement the last three days, travelling in the mountains on motorcycles in the rain and sleet was NOT particularly fun and there were a couple of mishaps. We managed to keep all our bikes upright, but on one dangerous stop did lose a helmet down the side of a mountain. Traveling over the continental divide in 34 degree temps, wearing no coats is also not recommended! Seriously think that is where I contracted the pneumonia. All in all, the company was good, the sights were grand, and I would do it all again!
Now, seriously hoping the hand will shape up so I can get back to making sawdust!
Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes, Craig came through with a new beautiful pair of chaps for me, looking forward to wearing them on our next trip to Estes in July!
