    Hi.
I found this while looking into designs and methods of thickness sanding.
    http://www.micromark.com/microlux-drum-thickness-sander,8599.html
I know it's not up to Jim's standards but...
    Has anyone used one ?
The design look's good. Bolted down to a bench for sure.

    Any comments...

    Hello Dirk.
A nice start to a great build.
Looks like you have put a lot of thought into how you are going to build this model.
I've not seen anyone use a fly cutter for large curves for some years. Nice Machining of the timbers.

    Regards Antony.

    Ciao Dirk.
Un buon inizio per una grande build.
Sembra che tu abbia riflettuto molto su come costruire questo modello.
Non ho visto nessuno usare un cutter per grandi curve per alcuni anni. Bella lavorazione delle travi.

    Saluti Antonio.

    Hi.
Many thanks for your encouraging  Sometimes I need it.

As you can see we have started the rigging.
We started by adding the standing rigging then we added the rat lines.

    This is the test run

I made a jig for the spacing of the art lines.

Then we painted pva glue onto the lines and placed the jig with the ropes spaced out.

This is what they looked like after removing the jig.

Then we started on making the sails.

We used a piece of scrap MDF board and placed a copy of the plans onto it. Then we covered it in Cling Film (Cooking Film).

Then the cloth was stretched evenly over the plans.
Then drawing pins were used to hold the cord taunt while pva glue was brushed onto the cord and the outer edge of the sail.

This is how it looked after removing the drawing pins.

Just cut out rough then trimmed with sharp scissors.

Will add the sails to the ship after marking the stitching and attaching them to the yards.

    Thanks for following my build.

    Alex S.

    Hi Michael.
    That's one super sized ship.
I love the shape of the bulkhead you got wrong. But you got it geometrically similar.

Nice building board. But with a model that size you need a table like Gaetan uses See link below.
    https://modelshipworld.com/index.php?/topic/15340-74-guns-ship-by-gaetan-bordeleau-124/&page=4
Will save your back. with all that twisting and trying to get into difficult places.

This is a must follow for me.

Nice start to your build. And a nice ship as well.

On  planking the planks are also treenailed at each beam. Not just at the ends of the plank.
The pencil looks perfect for your deck.😀

    Hi Micharl.
Sounds like your keel is twisted from your first statement. .?
Sort this out first.. Or you will have a ship that will not go together too well.
I had this issue with one of my first kits.. Keel and frames were twisted. My solution was to cut 4 softwood spacers the same width as the gap at the keel on every bulkheade/frame gap. A ship that had 48mm of twist then had less than 1mm.. Worked for me. This also stiffened the hull and made it easer to work with.

As far as Faring the frames..
I use a length's of strip wood and pin it to the Bow. Then pin it at the stern. You can then see what angle each bulkhead/frame needs to be.
Then I take my Dremmel with a sanding drum on and follow the contours. Checking with a strip of wood that you are still getting the correct angle.
There are lots of build logs that show this process.

    All the best.
    Antony.

    Hi.
I also have purchased a 3D Printer (Elegoo Mars pro. )
I have used the printer for Model making components (Not ship).
Hero Forge is by far the best Figurine shop I have seen. So many choices of kit. clothing. posture. and the list is endless.
With the Figurine's available I will be putting some on my Ships as well. And being scalable they will adapt to any model I build.

Today the Model has been collected after waiting some 18 months  for the Covid to calm down.
The nice thing is my work area is free again and its time to start researching something else to build.
