Baker reacted to Piet in Eight Sided Drainage Mill by flying_dutchman2 - FINISHED - scale 1:15 - Achtkante Poldermolen
Nice going Marcus and thanks for the sawdust/Titebond III mixture. I am contemplating a wipwatermolen for next to my fish pond.
Cheers,

Today was a sunny day to do some sanding outside and start building the cap. Sanded the mill and put together the framework of the cap.
Also drilled the axle head, which is the piece where the vaines will be attached to. It ended up as a complete failure. I did it by hand but need a drill press. Tomorrow getting a six pack of beer and next week go to the neighbor across the street, with the 6 pack and ask if I can use his drill press.

Thank you Srodbro!!
I marked the whole left side with a spike and immediately started drilling 0,65 mm holes. There's cca 1600 of them on one side, but it's going unexpectedly well..

Drafting table is from the mid 70's and is one very sturdy piece of furniture, I needed that when I was at the Rijks Middelbare Tuinbouw School in Utrecht (Royal Middle Horticulture School). I use the table for drawing (duuuh) and the clamp that tightens the table is so strong I can set heavy objects on it when it is in the horizontaal position.
The pieces are glued with a wide strip of wood in the back and they bend better. I have so much extra wood, I decided to use some of that to keep the cost down. So far I have spent around $200.00. The marine plywood is expensive.
The bottom plate has an opening the size of the top plate. When it is all done I will set it on top of several stone tiles.

Baker reacted to popeye the sailor in Santisima Trinidad by md1400cs – FINISHED - OcCre - 1/90 - cross-section - bashed
glad you like the pen......Danny and John {moderators} get the kudos though. the best tip I ever got perhaps you might benefit looking at some of the admiralty builds {like Danny's}......you can see the way they framed in the lower decks. then you can plank them over, leaving some areas unplanked, so it can be seen. outer planking looks great

Hi mates,
federicoaa welcome aboard. Happy that you want to borrow some of my ideas, thanks indeed.
Have been away from the shipyard - returned a few days ago. Started the lower outer hull planking. Denis, that pen (from your log) is perfect for the caulking lines!!
Here are a few pics. Waiting for some ordered bits including barrels. I would like to actually make some realistic looking ones, but beyond my skill set.
Started thinking about how to fabricate the floor just above the hold (sure that it has a specific name haha). Here are a few updated shots.
Cheers,

Baker reacted to SGraham in Shenandoah 1864 by SGraham - FINISHED - Corel - Scale 1:50 - American Civil War-era Cutter
So, today I made a bunch of little rope coils, stuck them all over the cutter, dusted off the display case, cleaned the glass, and put the cutter in it. I'm calling it good enough. I may make a flag later, but as far as I'm concerned, Shenandoah is done. Whew! She looks pretty nice on the island between the family room and the kitchen.
I think I'm going to try scratch building something next. Cheers, everybody!

Thanks Geert,
The bottom of the balcony is painted and provided with bolts.
The side of the balcony could be open with pillars or closed with planks.
With me it becomes open with pillars. It looks that this was the most common at that time. An example is made as a template.
4 pillars can be made together with a simple holder.
A first test (not yet glued)
Start gluing
Backside "work in progress" Planks are provided between the pillars. The question: 2 planks or 3 planks?
My wife says :I want 3 planks
I think 2 is better, compared to the drawing (2nd photo)
Does anyone have an idea ??

Baker reacted to Barbossa in Golden Hind (ex-Pelican) by Baker - FINISHED - scale 1/45 - Galleon late 16th century
Hi Patrick, wonderful work
Concerning the balcony question : I'd also settle for option 2, option 3 seems a bit "crowded" to me.

Patrick,
I agree with Christian, I would also go for 2 planks.

Glued and nailed the foundation wall and the pieces that go above that wall to the frame.
I create a paste of sawdust and Titebond III wood glue and fill in the gaps between the two walls and where the sides come together. Once dry it is very hard, waterproof, and resists cracking and shrinking. I have made this paste for many outdoor projects.
Once dry, I will dry fit the doors and windows. Remove them and paint a primer on the walls. Once done I will glue and nail the under layer for the fake thatch roof.
I read on another site that a person uses an epoxy resin to water proof the outside. I have this from another model I made years ago and may use it.
