The lanyards for the lower shrouds are completed along with the futtock staves and upper catharpins on the fore lower shrouds, I used 1.5mm rod to simulate the dead eyes and 1.7mm blocks for the tackle, these blocks are made by fellow modeler Kevin and figured now would be a good time to show case them, I think scale wise the assembly looks pretty good.

    Hello,
today I started building the oars. First I saw them 4X3 mm and then turned the handle at the lathe. The secnd step is, grinding the rest till nothing is left 😏 , see the one below

Then I saw out the outlines and shape the rest with files and sandpaper. Now only 31 are left.

Reached a milestone in that the hull planking is complete. I bought some walnut filler and will at a later time fill some of the wider spaces between some of the planks at the bow but overall happy with how the planking turned out.

Also started  to transfer the measurements from the plans to the hull, preparing the upper profiles, for gunports on the upper decks.

Hello and thank you for your comments and likes,
to show the high of the tiller in relation to the helmsman I made a picture with one of my carpenters. He is 1,70 m large, and the tiller is at 80 cm from the floor. And shipman, even at the original ship they have a strait tiller replica.

I continued painting the hull. Googling for color codes AI interacted and suggested than in 1/700 colors should be mixed with 20% white. Sounded reasonable but I prefer to cover apply lighter shades upon completion before oil weathering

    Hello,
because I was not really happy with the tiller, I build today a new one.

At that picture you see on top the drawing Dammann did, with a too short plug. The black thing in the middle is the original tiller, or what is left of it, and my calculations for 1:10. Below that in 1:50 and the new tiller.

And here is he installed. I think it looks much better

I printed out the model in 1:12 scale, then put it all together with a water soluble acrylic glue to check the parts fit. Needs fine tuning, but that’s to be expected with a 3D print. There was an option for the body to be printed whole or with the doors separate. I think the former would have been a better option in retrospect.

The lower shrouds are completed, and the lanyards are rigged but not yet tied, using sculpey clay I made up the tack fairlead, finished up the entry port by adding a step/landing. Thanks for looking.

With 39°C impossible to airbrush. Paint would get dry instantly. Therefore I finished the job on the right antitorpedo belt this using a more powerful tool. Result with some had work came pretty nice, much better that the original

Today painting was possible. The PE guns shields proved too fragile and hard to be glued on deck. I removed them and replaced them with 3d ones I made, bit thicker with reasonable detail. Unfortunately some glue spots and scratches on deck are visible. Some can be covered but few will remain visible on close looking

Hello and thanks for your comments and likes
today I build the tiller for the rudder. After turning most of the handle, I had to glue it to a peace of wood. My fingers are too thick to hold it. It's 21 mm long, and the handle after the head has 1 mm Ø.

I carved mostly with my small V cutter and my carving knife. Using also small files. And that is the result

This is a little faking, because the tiller is too short to go through the slot 😐 But you would't see it 😇

And now in action, but not fast

Some time ago, I made the mistake of getting involved with the boats because of the oars. Of course, this was not without consequences ...

... Here is the white “big” launch from the kit and behind it a new “decent” 34 foot launch according to McKay's drawings.

Unfortunately, the planks of the inner floor gave way during printing, there was only a small usable remnant at the front and rear.

And if you man the boat, you can see straight away that the large boats were rowed “double banked”, i.e. 2 men per thwart and if the capstan is used, one thwart cannot be used.

Oar lengths inside and outside and the position to the rower and his arms seem to be correct.

But the inside floor still gives me pause for thought. As McKay draws it, it is 30-40 cm too low for the rower's legs and too high so that 50% of the load volume is lost. So it's a strange intermediate height

Somehow this still didn't fit. I then rummaged through my documents again and found what I was looking for, as these details are seldom shown.

Here is the small kit that has evolved as a result.

The inner floor to protect the hull now rests on the frames at the very bottom. The rowers' feet have been given a bar for this purpose.

    Trial sitting ...

... and it fits reasonably well. With slightly straighter legs it even fits quite well.

So the other foot bars are also installed.

After that came the thwarts and the other interior ...

And again we had a rehearsal sitting ...

    ... even multiple ones.

This also seems to fit. The capstan is removable, so two more rowers could fit in.

But the next question is, what was the rigging like?

In terms of the mast positions, I would have guessed lugger rigging, which I was able to see live a few times in France, or perhaps sprit rigging, but I'll see what Steel has to say about that later. Above all, all the fittings on the hull are still missing, which are vera often omitted.

    Greetings, DAniel
