  1. Planking Verdict: PERFECTO!!!!!! Am anxious of what is to come. Still long way untill embarking to America Dutch Colombus 😎 Christos
  2. Yes cpt Poison you are right thank you .... am keeping that as last plan.
  3. Thank you Kurt. I did and they (Zootoyz.jp) have responded very quickly and positive. Am waiting now... On the other hand (plan b) am thinking of a 3D printer... I got pictures of the lion.... but it seems our japanese friend from Zootoyz is a reliable professional in his field. There is also a plan c 😁. Billing Boats has the same model same scale.... Christos
  4. What can someone do? I have lost the lion casting piece of Sir Winston Churchill figurehead. Put it somewhere and can find it. The kit is from woody joe.... they have no website. Can someone advise me what I can do?
  5. @Bertu and @Wallace thank you guys for your nice comments. Still playing with the I idea of redoing the build, but now knowing better, trying to avoid this time all the small mistakes I did on it the first time.
  6. Some friend asked about my new build. Its the yacht Sir Wiston Churchill 1/75 from woody joe. An interesting japanese kit. Here it the link to my new build log:
  7. Peter that was very nice of you giving such a detailed answer! Thank you very much you have been very helpfull. You said "most of my spares still sit in the laser cut sheets." Does this mean you bought all wooden laser cut sheets twiece? Or the kit has in it spare parts? Christos
  8. Thank you Peter.... outstanting work. Such details explained in the instr. means you got a great kit there. I didnt knew Shipway kits are so well made! Never had one since now, but looking at your work it does help Model Shipways to sell me a kit or two 😍 How did you blackened? Was it Birchwood Casey Brass Black? Did it cured enought so you could bend the wire without damaging the blackened surface?
  9. Installation of the deck, painting the green line and ofcourse giving to the deck planks a clear mat finish. And thats all for now, the shipyard closes down until next Tusday... my son is coming for a visit.
  10. rudder and both propellers installed plus some minor painting repairs and finishes inside and outside the hull.
  11. @Richmond nice of you to explain all this... I wasnt aware of the Creos and I dont know how easy is to find them in Europe. I am going to give it a shot and try to find some and make an experimental use of them. @Louie da fly Thank you Steven. Its much out of the ancient ship range, that both of us like. But after Hermione I though of a ship of our days (1966) is something that concludes the time line of my builds: bireme 5th cent. bc, olkas 3rd cent. bc, drakkar 9th ad Hermione 18th ad....and SWC 20th century 😅
  12. @Tigersteve thank yoi Steve. The planking wasnt a hsrd one. So the sanding wasnt hard either. Still I didnt manage to elimanete completly (is still something to see though is fainting)the view of the planks, though believe me I did my best.... maybe I should have gone a step further with sanding. @cog yes you are right. The vallego primers arent the very best. Still they have good working paints and as you said a deep assortment. Anyway its been a long time since I used Humbroll and Revel.
  13. @Richmondoh yes it really did. Plus the primer. First time I use tamiyia and they areof a very good quality. My favourite is vallejo but now I think tamiyia is even better
  14. @RichmondI am not sure if I undestant what you are telling me.... but I have made more than a few coats of paint trying to reduce as much as I could the view of the planks, because actualy SWC has no planked hull. Do you mean that I over did it?
  15. red hull finish and black finish for the upper part. Spray it with tamiyia spray paints. Am happy with result.
  16. Work in shipyard its slow but I am ok with the result. I finished sanding the hull and a primer (used Tamiya spray gray) was done. I thought sanding a few hours with a 180 and 320 grade sandpaper was going to be ok.... it appeared after 1st primer that it wasnt. So the 1st layer of primer was sanded completely off, due to the fact that the surface repair wasnt easy. It took another few hours of sanding (this time a 320 and 400 grade) and so I came up with a completely clean -from primer- hull. So I primed again... the surface now was good, I just made some minor sanding (500-800 grade) and then I gave it a last primer spray -not all over the hull- just were I made the sanding repairs. Lastly I gave it a finish (polish) with a 2000 grade sandpaper. I dont know if I could have gone further with the quality, but I stopped, thinking there is still the finishing paint (using tamiyia spray paints) which is black and dark red... and am going to spray it maybe twice, so I believe thats going to give me a nice enough surface.
  17. planking is coming near its end. Am planning to coat the inside of the hull with a glue (wood glue/pva) and water solution, to reinforce it before I start sanding it. The kit suggests that to be done by a two parts epoxy... but I think thats too much.
  18. yes you right! But... there are app's that got algorithems (I have downloaded such an app free of charge) they cann translate by taking a picture of the text. so no worries
  19. yes it has quality materials and good drawings plus coloured instr. The only thing... its in japaneese
  20. so shipyard had recorded till now (all the last week and today) 24 working hours. Planking its going well... its an easy planking actualy till this moment. The wood its nice flexible though I still soak it for braking safety. My new planking bender its just sitting there still brand new! picture shows work progress till this moment. No sanding done.
