Managed to get the bulwarks painted as well as the upper hull. Let the coppering begin!!

As mentioned earlier I plan on using a copper leaf method that was demonstrated at the last Northeast Joint Conference a few weeks ago. This is going to definitely be a learning experience. 😜

I still see a few spots on the edges of white lines that need a little sharpening. Damn OCD. 😂😜

    The Fore Channel
Wedge-shaped in section-inboard 2.39 tapering to 1.46mm at outboard edge.
    Upper surface is horizontal.
Width about 9.54mm. Inner surface curved to fit the hull.
The AFT end is narrower to accommodate the anchor.( Picture shows this was mistakenly first attached at fore end. No prize if you spotted this, just the satisfaction of doing so.)
The fore(leading) edge is S-shaped. Most of the outboard edge is recessed and there are notches cut for the Holding Chains. The position of these I took from my sheer Atalanta plan, as they are not exactly as shown in the scale illustration.
The “recess” will later be filled by a molding.
3 short, reinforcing pins are set into the inboard surface, and matching holes drilled into the hull.
The Channel is attached by PVA on the wood, and CA glue on the pins. The long bolts mentioned were not used and would not be seen.
2 ring bolts are fitted where shown.

    The Stool.
A short narrower Channel fitted aft of the Fore Channel, but of similar design.

    Main Channel.
Same dimensions of the Fore Channel.
An alternative aft section is suggested which is narrower (smaller dead-eyed ) rather like an attached Stool.
It follows the horizontal curve of the hull, but the wood is flexible and the reinforcing pins are enough to do the job.
    Also has 2 ring bolts

    Mizzen Channel
    Smaller (2.12x1.33mm) and narrower.

    Standards
Wooden supports above the larger Channels. Shaped like a hanging knee.
1 mm thick and concave hypotenuse side is chamfered.
Ensure their position doesn't interfere with line of holding chains.

The schedule was suspended due to heavy work for more than a week. I spent a day installing these components today. These may not seem like much, but with fixed pins and rivets, precise positioning can be time-consuming.

Thought I would add some close up photo's of Montague.  I was on the NRG site and came across the article by Kurt on taking photo's of ones work and figure I needed to practice  a bit. Guess I have to find a little space for a photo booth when  taking good photo's of my ship.  Well guys one day maybe I get the hang of taking good photo's, hope you enjoy the close up. Gary

    Good Morning Alan;

The archives at Kew also contain extensive records which came via the War Office, and are prefixed WO. These are all accessible via the search engine at Kew. WO 55/1830, 31 & 32 all contain lists of ships with particulars of ordnance, dating from 1793-1799. How thorough they are I do not know, but by this date normally quite a lot of info was recorded.

    All the best,

    Mark

Slow but sure... Hannah's hull planking is now at the level just below the wales. Much of the time spent was working on bending the planks. The aft end of the two upper planks have a twist, a bend and a taper to mate with the counter boards (whew!).

Currently, I'm favoring white or a turpentine-ish brown color for this part of the hull. The wale planking will be natural boxwood.

I'm just now marking out the lines to have the top of the wales coincide with the top of the false deck. The way I envision the construction, the bottom of the deck planks and covering board should match the top of the wales. Please comment if I'm wrong here.

    Best,
    Mike

Alan just a question for you. When I was doing  more research on Alfred, which of course I have not ,stop I was searching the Public Record Office, better know as PRO, lead me to WO51/291/882H which lead me to info on what guns Alfred carried and ADM 51/34 1056 44 which was her log books  I believe, around the 1780's. This is when I was looking for info on the lathorn in the magazine.  I went through your build and couldn't find that you may of used these, hope they are of some help.  Gary

The info is in the History of English Sea ordnance by Caruana. On page 237 he gives the PRO WO 51-291 as his reference. He does state that Alfred had a complete set of Carronades as well, including  eighteen 9 pound carronades. He goes on to say Rare though it was, there was a 9-pdr carronade, but it was presumably a civilian piece never officially adopted by the Navy. I always look in the back of the book's to see what they use as a reference and try to get that reference. Some times  it work's  out, other times its out of range as far as the cost goes.

Alan , Rif put out 4 books of the British Warships in the in the age of sail, one through 1603-1714, 1714-1792, 1793-1817.1817-1863, all of them have a ton of info on the British warship. I do believe that  he also join up with David Lyon to put out one on the Stream ships.  I went looking for his other books and talk about being very expensive, his 1603- 1714 would cost you $5899.97. Of course you could get one a lot cheaper  on Amazon for 734.99. 😭They sure are not getting any cheaper that's for sure. Gary

Hi guy's. Here's a update on the build but this time it is more about her building board. I add a way of being able to tilt her from side to side  which helps keep the back in tack and a lot easier getting to thing's.  I worked on a couple of hanging knee's and being tilted made it a lot better.  I can't take the Credit for it which goes to  Alan/AON and the tech info on it. Hope you enjoy the pictures and any question will be more then happy to answer them

Thanks Guys, it keeps me very happy. It does seem that at the moment am building another fore capstan for the main deck. I really didn't like the color of the old one and the new one should be a lot better looking.  Now where did I put all those pieces????? Thanks again guy's. Gary

Thanks Albert and Hubac.  The patination is a finish that Ed came up with when he was building the Naiad, which is a beeswax dissolved in turpentine to a dilute solution along with 17 years of time. Gary
