    I tried heat nada, got really frustrated put the deadeye on a board put the chain plate on top and just hit the damn thing with a hammer. Low and behold it went on. Thought it was a fluke so I did it again with the same result. As Torpedoman we where always told to get a bigger hammer and it is still true.

    Very nice Rich. I wouldn't want my flags kept in a one holer if you get my drift. Sailors can be cretins, we had a phantom crapper on one of my ships, thought he was funny, not so much.

    That is what I have done in the past but these break. They seem to be soldered in the middle. Beyond Frustrating. So I just rigged them with line and put a loop at the bottom for the link. Can't tell the difference when complete but what a PITA?

    Go to Ocooch Hardwoods and order a 4 inch piece of Scrool Saw ready Walnut and cut it to size. Cost about five bucks plus shipping.

    What is the trick for inserting dead eyes into chainplates? I've got two done and have broken two deadeyes in half during the process. This is worse than inserting an interior packing into a bearing seat.

    Bring a big old bag of patience with you when you go to make those itty bitty hinges. I'd go long bar style.

    Tim, I started this build about 6 years ago, and I am in hot standby waiting for my sails for my Rattlesnake build so I am finishing the Hind. It will probably be at least 6 to 8 weeks before I am complete. If you get no joy from Dusek drop me a PMand I'll send you the plans when I am done. Jim

    I get a 1/16 x 1 inch piece of wood, cut 45's on both sides with my Micro Mark table saw, then trim to 1/16. In other words, I cheat.

    I like it both ways and your deck looks great. I haven't decided yet if I am going to nib mine or do it like you. Your model your call. I am thinking about milling some white oak for the decks and for the sides from the Wale up.

    Shawn as you will soon learn this site is different from the vast majority on the internet. I have joined and quit many sites that have people deride you for asking questions or because you do things a little different. This IS NOT one of those sites. People here are helpful and I have never read a derisive post by anyone. You have here available to you some of the most talented modelers in the world. Look at the twirling world and see that there are people every where with the love of modeling. Don't fret my first planking job wasn't the greatest either and that is where I learned about wood filler and sanding. Thought I was cheating and then learned everybody does it. Soak your wood in boiling water and bend them slowly into shape. Hold them in place with clamps. In many cases your wood strip will be full width in the center and need to be trimmed at the bow and stern. Some of these gentleman on this site are pure magicians at this technique and may give some advice. You will Master this. Just take your time and enjoy.

    Welcome aboard Scasey. Absolutely nothing wrong with removing mistakes and starting over. A lot of this hobby is learning from our mistakes. I learn something new everyday on this site. Enjoy.

    Get the drill adapter and the BEST overlooked accessory the Foot Control Switch. I have both and have no issues. Love the foot switch.
