I have a question for anyone that can help. My kit only came with a very small (2') length of .20" black wire for use on the chainplates. I am almost out, and haven't even finished with the portside foremast. I have brass wire though. The question is if I make and install the chainplates in brass, can I go back and "paint" them with Micro-Mark's "Blacken It" and not damage the wood deadeyes and will the metal take the finish? I have some Blacken-It on order but it won't be here until next Friday...I have no experience with blackening metal...I'd like to be working on them while I wait.....or should I wait and apply the metal finish to the wire prior to using for chainplates.....thanks for any advice......

Hi Mate,
I still think you should mirror either side of the King Plank, just as we spoke about last night, and just try a few treenails right up forward where they wont be seen, just a trial.
What you have done looks very good and you should be pleased.
Be Good

John,
You should think about coming up to Boston again in July. The Morgan will be sailing in. I'm on the coordinating committee so I'll keep you posted.

Here is today's ......limited....progress. Not much but once again it is progress. My time in the shipyard has been torn between life and yard.....Strange, we went from 17 F day before yesterday, and last afternoon I was grilling on the deck. Today in the 60's....go figure.....So anyways, here are pictures of what got done today. A little more work on the masts, and I got the anchors hung. These anchors will be changed soon. When I bought my kit, the one thing the guy did was to glue and paint the anchors, and glue and paint the cauldrons for the Tryworks. No idea why....so, I have ordered more anchors from MS, however they are out of stock. So I went ahead and hung them off and all I will need to do is undo 1 brass ring to replace them. I want to have the anchor in Brittania, and the anchor stocks in wood. So once recieved I'll be changing these out......

Looking Good Augie...
Of course those scrapers work!!! Sometimes the etching goes too long and the point is a little dull. But for soft woods it works a treat. I have to deepen the grooves for harder woods. You will notice many extra profiles on the sheet. You wont need then for the kit,...I just thought I would throw in several extras. They come in real handy. SHH!!! Dont tell EXPO

Hi John, I'm constantly amazed at the level of detail and high quality work that I see on MSW forums and your model just reinforces those points. Lovely work, Mate. You'd have to be happy with the way it's progressing.
Have a great day,
Cheers,
Rowan D.
