  1. Maybe he can change the days of the week to Sunday1, Sunday2, Sunday3, Friday, Saturday1, Satuday2, Saturday3. Naturally the 8 hours we work on Friday would be compensated at the usual 40 hour rate. Sam
  2. Mark and all, I never meant to suggest anybody should drink and use tools, thats a recipe for disaster. You could ruin your project, yourself or worse somebody else. I've commented here on MSW about my adventure with a trim router and my left ring finger. It happened so fast I didnt really comprehend what I did for a split second. And I was sober. In my head I was saying sitting back, admiring your build and celebrating with the adult beverage of choice. Sam
  3. Amen to that! Unless you've a reason to not drink I would think a single malt highland scotch might be more appropriate. sam
  4. Sjors, take your time and make it right, you've mastered ratlines, copper plates should come to you pretty easy. Now, I want to know what universe you live in where a week is NINE DAYS????? I am taking vacation in the Netherlands from now on! Sam
  5. Hooo-ie Sjors! Thats a project for sure. Looking at the run of plates as a row of planking, what do you do for stealers and drop plates (planks?) sam
  6. Thank you everybody, seeing things through others eyes can be very helpful as well as encouraging. I have elected to leave the little "ball" off the bottom and use the wale as a terminating point, the material I had in place for that broke off as I was reducing the taper. It just happens that it is almost just the right length to end there, I can add a /16" and make a tight fit. The roofline will extend into the upper wale, I havent figured that part out yet. That's todays adventure. Russ, "Minimalist Build" I like that, much more elegant than "Shaker Shop Shipwrights." I am thinking of expanding on your suggestion of card stock on the columns and gently scraping a recess to give the same appearance. Thank you, but Scott? Scott! I Am Sam! And before anybody asks, the idea of botulism glazed ham with moldy eggs just doesnt work, not in a box with a fox nor even on a train in the rain! As far as muddling along, this part of the build has really challenged me; I just had no idea what it wanted to look like. There was a constant dialog between me and the Gremlin: ME "Dude! WTF is this supposed to look like?" GREMLIN "Dont worry, I'll tell you when its wrong" ME "I know, but you never tell me you love me anymore" GREMLIN "I dont want you to get a swollen head. BTW, you've crazy glued your hand to the work bench again" And on and on. I feel I can build most anything if I have a drawing or photo of how things play together but here I was in the dark, so, muddling. I have learned over the years its sometimes better to just jump in and get on with it. So far its working out pretty good on this one. I jut hope my measurements are accurate when it comes time to open up the hull to access the LEDs I installed FOUR YEARS AGO. Sam
  7. Thanks Mark, seeing the term "skittle" was activating my sweet tooth. A new term to remember. Sam
  8. Steve, interesting technique. Similar to stained glass; put a bit on the iron and touch it to the cameing. Sam
  9. Ofencer, Mark, In keeping with a comment on another thread about how there is no stupid questions.........outside of the candy, what is a skittle????? Sam
  10. Vivian, Outstanding! Translation: Super-way-cool-Jolly-double-plus-GOOD! Any idea what happened with the LED? Bad solder joint? Wrong resistor? Wrong voltage? In my experience LEDs usually dont just "go bad"and stop working. They can and do but its rare. Might be a good idea to find out now before you replace it and maybe have it fail again when you cant get to it. Enjoying watching your journey, Sam
  11. Moving along slowly with the Quarter Badges. Between "Fully Framed" and Chucks log as well as others I am muddling through it. There has been minor progress on carriages, nothing worth showing, a few bolsters is all, maybe this weekend. I am generally pleased with the direction I am going with the badges, the lower portion needs more shaping and a ball at the bottom. Then I can start on the top.......and do it all over on the starboard side. feel free to mark up my photos if yo usee something that need addressing. Thats all the news thats fit for print today. Sam
  12. I think your more talented than me David, I end up having that microscopic sized piece of solder fall off as soon as the flux starts to boll up and flow. Sam
  13. Steve, I have been learning on a berns-O-Matic solder pencil from OSH. So far it's worked great, cheap too. Check out ottofrei.com for supplies like pre fluxes solder paste and soldering blocks. They are in San Francisco and I usually receive my items by the end of the week - Thursday/Friday if I order on Sunday. Sometimes sooner. Be careful, if you explore too much there you could blow your lifetime hobby budget; Files, box joint pliers etc. Sam
  14. Steve, nice workmanship like usual. Assuming your placement on deck is correct, where else would you have placed the discharge holes?
  15. Rich, I agree looks good. I saw somewhere recommended that mat artist acrylic was good for the fuzzies (Auguie? Realworkingsailor?) Sam
  16. Rich, that looks like my hair back in the 80's after a Metalica concert! Sam
  17. Ulises, Thank you for the information. I have yet to rig my first build. Bits of knowledge like this are very important to learn FIRST. sam
  18. Steve, Looks great! Like others have commented nice and crisp. Those tenons look very good. They are fun once you work out how to do them. Sam
  19. Ummm Sjors? You know she is a moderator here dont you? Perhaps you should be more careful where and to who you make you admissions? You have been a busy man Sjors, looks great! Your going to cover up all that nice wood with metal??? Sam
  20. Very Very nice Sjors! So you think its easier to do the stays before the shrouds? I may try that when it comes time to (finally) rig my Enterprise. Sam
  21. Nice work Mark! Hmmm smuggling solvents? Maybe I could just get a RX card. "Honest officer I have a prescription for this!" Sam
  22. Rich, I can't agree more! I only have 14 on my build and it's taking forever, I can't imagine the number you have to do. They look good though. Sam
  23. The framing looks great to me Mark. I am jealous, we cant get Toluene in CA anymore or Naphtha, or any number of useful solvents; our congress critters are saving us from ourselves again.... Sam
