cog reacted to Bitao in Rectangular positioner
Five versions of the rectangular positioner have been designed and manufactured; the last one can be used in the plane machining of the milling machine with adjustable angles, especially the slotting of various angles of the Keel, the ribs and the crossbeam. At the same time, it can also be used as a precise positioning of rectangular assembly. The metal material can avoid the overflow of glue which makes the workpiece difficult to separate. The material is high hardness aluminum alloy (6061) and brass (H59) .

Hello. I like to develop and make my own tools. In order to make the model more accurate and efficient,. Of course, it's not for sale. Few people in the country can buy what I make for their own use. After all, I'm a model enthusiast, not a businessman.

Hello. The pursuit of better is my model not to give up the concept. I have developed or copied and improved things without selling a lot of assistive tools. After all, I have been doing this for more than 20 years. I wouldn't go to a manufacturer for these things, because mass produced things aren't guaranteed, and only the designer can understand the parts of the structure that need to be precisely controlled.

I did a tiny bit of work today but I managed a breakthrough!
To complete the rails, I needed discs made of brass at 7 mm diameter with a central hole of 2 mm. I looked for brass washers but could not find them in these exact dimensions. There are Jewellers tools that cut discs of any size but are expensive. I ve been scratcing my head for days now but finally I figured a way to make discs from brass sheet. Needs a fair bit of tools but nothing too specialised.
I used the Dremel bit for mounting grinding discs, the screw has a diameter of 1.3 mm. I drew 7 mm circles in thin scrap wood and drilled a 1.3 mm hole in the middle. I cut small pieces of brass with a hole in the middle. I sandwitched it all, mounded the assembly on my cordless drill and started grinding against the rotating disc sander.
The result was excellent. This is a process to make a few discs, not for mass production. I opened the hole to 2 mm on my drill press. This needs care as it is easy to make the hole off center
This is how each rail is supposed to be, The shaft, the disc and the sleeve at the bottom will all be soldered together. The shaft will be glued through the deck and there will be 4 brass nails through the disc and into the deck. The next photo shows scrap pieces but the final rail will be something like this.

Mark and Carl, it is a BIG baby! Even as a half hull! I think after completion I will take the masts down in all my models and pack them away, to come out in 20 years time...
Bedford, I tried the hairdryer and it seemed the wrong tool for the job. The heat gun came in and it was much better, more controlled and consistent. Safer as well as it was the admiral's hairdryer!

As long as the boxes do not hit the table, there isn't anything to build
Nick, don't mention it. Currently testing Mr Paint both enamels and acrylics. I really like the enamels for airbrushing.

It may not look like much but the base rust coat applied. Once I’ve applied a matte coat I can begin chipping fluids then start painting him black. That won’t be till next week when I’m off work again. My plan is to now start on some f the other hull structures that won’t need sever be weathering.

Got the same one somewhere in my stash. Looking good OC. I'll follow along, and see what surprises this kit has in store for the ignorant builder

Fortunately I'm colour blind, so you can paint it any which way you want

Thanks OC. Need to get my bearings back on building to get that big German b....... out of it's mothballs. I think these small and quick builds might just do the trick.

Since I have little time, I left my SMS Seydlitz in her mothballs and picked up this little build.
The only thing I can say: "it is small!!!" and it is almost finished before you start it
Resin and PE ready for painting
Base coat "Black base" with chrome - both AK extreme metal colours - enamels
Base colour is RLM 66 some details filled in with colours, and metal PE which has been prepainted - Vallejo acrylics - added a bit of wear and tear
Getting the PE, resin, and plastic fitted took the better part of an eveing, painting took in all about 1.5 - 2 hours. Quite a fun model to build despite it's size, lot's of detail on the resin parts too
Cheers
