It's quite limited Tamiya's colour palette. That's why I like Vallejo. Did you dilute the paint (even the model air)?

I finished the rigging.  I didnt want to go to crazy so I kept the rigging lite.

then i started painting the arado.  The first coat is down.  I used model air paints.  Definitely different than tamiya.

Thanks for your incredible tenacity is putting all this together Ed.... you must have been a rigger in a former life. And an incredibly steady hand in this one. It just occurred to me, with your comment about needing a few times to place a line without fouling, I'm sure that you have already thought of this, but if you harden the end of the line for an inch or so and also colour it red or some other definite contrast would that make it easier to thread the new lines through the maze?

Thank you, Micheal.  I do harden the ends of line with thin CA and also snip the end to an angled point, but the coloring idea is brilliant.  Thanks.  Actually, most fouling is detected once the line has been pulled taut, but the color sure would help find the ends under the tops and crosstrees.  As to steady hands, I could only wish.  Worse with each passing year.

Oh, the house is still making her demands, Carl, but I'm turning a deaf ear for now.

As for being unable to insert a photo, I've tried the "Insert other media" button below and chose "Insert image from a URL".  When I paste the URL location and click "Insert into post" the space where the URL was pasted turns a pale red but nothing else happens.  I can click on the insert button all I want and that pop-up window just remains.  When I choose the "Drag files here to attach, of choose files..." option I get " There was a problem processing the uploaded file. -200".  The Uploaded Images box says the upload failed.

    EDIT: It just worked!

Carl, short answer, no. But if you mean "sharing the ways that I do things" as teaching then I suppose you could call it that. It just seems to me  that so many members of this forum have taught me so much about model ship building, that it only feels right to pass on some of the things that I do that might be helpful or useful to the other members. Sometimes it feel a bit like showing off but that is not the intent. One of the amazing things to me about this hobby, is that the members who share their knowledge here bring to the table without realizing it all of their own background knowledge, and each profession or workplace job teaches them skills and ways of seeing things that I don't. So in that sense we are all teachers.

    Thanks for the question Carl

Created all the small single and double blocks, throat halliard blocks, fiddler blocks, leeboard block, one heart, 5mm deadeyes, belaying pins (need to make more) the gaff jaws and for extra added entertainment 4 barrels, 2 large and 3 small buckets.

All the deadeyes for purchase are flat in the middle on both sides but in reality they should be round. I have tried making them myself but it is not working. I am still figuring how I can do this.
I have purchased deadeyes and if I can't make them myself I will use those (picky, picky)

Thought of purchasing the buckets but because I was making the small blocks, why not make them myself. Drilled a hole in a dowel, cut them to height and glued a 1/32 thick piece of veneer as bottom to it, sanded and stained or painted them.

The rigging of the mizen mast is going to be a challenge. The plans are different compared to the model in the book. So I will look at both and work towards something logically. The rest is the same as the yacht "Utrecht" and the Galjoot (which I have plans for as well).

I will add some flags such as the Dutch flags in the colors of 1600's.

... and this is the final result on the ship.

The ribbon and small windows have been assembled too.

I will need to correct the paint on some small areas. This has been peeled due to the pressure when glueing, but this is no problem.

Finally, I want to mention, that the benefit of beautiful colour of oil paint has to be taken relative in comparison with a very difficult procedure, very long drying time and low resistance to mechanical stress. Still, I will proceed with oil paints.

.. difficult process on deciding on the decoration form/pattern. There are different decorations on the van de Velde drawings for the same ship. Also the models from the museums are not following the same pattern.

I decided to follow the drawing here  - second from above.

The wales have been attached. I have inserted the main throughbeam in the stern. This a major structural element as the quarter rudder applies its turning moment through this beam. Pilgrims in round ships have described how, travelling in steerage, they could feel every movement of and twist of the ship when they leant against the throughbeam.
    Cheers
    Dick
