    Hi Chris,

Much thanks, your interest pleases me very well.

I used a scroll jigsaw at first that I put in a jig as you can see at the following photos.

On the second photo is the power button that I can press with my foot.

After I sanded with a belt sander

Oh my english, I hope that was what would you like to know

Thank you so much for looking and the kind comment B.E.

Here's a little update. The planking include the rails at the starbord side are finished so far as possible at the moment.
The ornaments at the end of the rails (I don't no the right term) were uncharted waters for me. I decided to do the rail and ornament at one piece.
I made a simply stencil because it needs several of that ornaments.

The shape of the rail is done with drawing plate and the ornament with cutter and curving tools

here you see it at the model

I desided to close the spaces between the bulkheads at the port-side based on some trubble during the planking
    That's looking so

I believe the planking will be much easier at this

Much thanks for the kind comment Timmo.

It's going on with the build. I added two rails during the last days.
But I want to display how make the planks above (or under) the gunports at first.

First step is to mark the position where the plank must be wider

Then I saw the plank with the bandsaw

    and sanded it

Thereafter it must be fitted to the other planks. I did that with a chissel. That's the easiest way to do it for me.

Here you can see the result.

And now some photos of the current progress.

Slowly but constant. Here's a new update.
I added the Channel Wale and planks between the Main Wale and the Channel Wale.

Could you tell me the result please. It's very interesting for me-

And now to the idea from Mark

I sanded the Main Wales about days and following this I used black stain.

    How shall I put it?
You are right Mark, it looks mutch better. Thank you, the effort paid off.

In fact it's much better to seen as at the photos.

And also I planked the Lower Counter

Hi Niklas and Adam, thanks for the kind words.

It's going on with the Main Wale. I done it in the same manner as John McKay is shown at his plans.
I made two templates at first because I must produce many equal pieces.

Also it must drawn the postion of the Main Wales to the Frames.

    Thereafter began the agony

    Here's the result

    Cowl Baffle

There is a wire reinforcing ring around the rim of the cowl. This was silver soldered on and cleaned up.

A baffle is attached to the opening of the cowl to regulate air flow to the stove's firebox.

I cut a disc of 0.3mm sheet, drilled two 0.7mm holes through it and silver soldered the two sliding pins. I filed the protruding ends down to simulate a peened over end.

Next I fabricated two sleeves for the slides to travel in from 0.75mm ID tubing and a 0.5mm pin to locate them correctly. These were CA glued into the cowl - too much heat would have been needed to solder them in and I risked destroying my previous work.

Finally two wire handles were drilled into the cowl and CA'd in. The whole assembly was blackened in stages and polished.

The framing for the upper deck has started.  Hopefully it will look better than the lower deck framing.  The biggest difference between the two decks is that there are hanging knees at every beam, slowing down the process considerably.  In order to accurately mark the centerline I have wrapped a loop of thread through the ventilation spaces of the hawse pieces.  A second thread is secured to this loop and attached to the stem.

The carlings are dry-fit (and at least one of them needs replacing ) and still need their notches for the ledges cut.  The pillar has a tenon superiorly to fit into a mortise on the undersurface of the beam.  Inferiorly it is simply glued to the deck.  The large gap between the hanging knee and the frames occured because I have chosen to omit the ceiling below the deck clamps.

Well, I almost had the rigging done!  All rigging was secured yesterday afternoon until I turned around quickly with a pair of tweezers in my hand, caught the port after brace and carried it away!

The brace is now re-rigged but still to be trimmed and re-secured, so apart from a slightly cock-eyed yard (due to no tension on the port brace) and the unfinished brace, she's rigged.

Next time in at the museum I hope to get her finished (visitor numbers allowing) as once the brace is re-done there's only cleaning up of Irish pennants, attaching rope coils and the anchors to do - the anchors and cables are made and simply awaiting attachment.

Here are some photos of her as of yesterday.

    JS,

Thanks for your nice thought. YES I know (:-) I now know, of soooo many errors with this build, including what you rightfully pointed out as incorrectly shaped weather deck entry housings.

FYI: I started this build about nine years ago, and after an initial start it sat in a closet for several years. It was, at the time being build exactly as Corel intended, along with its many errors. I was ignorant and had not looked for source material. THAT has changed.

Over the last 2 years or so I have been "catching up" with the build, which included a lot of re-building. I purchased several books, including the Museum book Vasa 1, the Hocker, and Landström books, I should receive his (L) this week (I note that your photos come from that source) I also have the pdf version of same, along with several sheets of the museum plans; I have also been helped by other members who are also building the Vasa.

Adding to that, my files now contain many hundreds of photos of the 1:1, the 1/10th as well as many of Clayton's photos. So going forward from 2 years ago I became much more aware of how it should look. But JS, this is all recent history (:-) I built the weather deck nine years ago from the Corel plans.

So this build, in its current state, has gone through some "re-building. I wanted to fix the errors that could be fixed. The weather deck entry door will not be part of those repairs. Too late.

I have learned a lot here at MSW by reading, looking, and by many times thinking OMG some of our member builders are astonishing; specially on the scratch built side of the "wall". I'll never climb over that wall..ha ha....

For your edification, as well as my piece of mind. I offer these examples of "fixes. I appreciate your looking into this build, thanks.
Stern as Corel intended+some extras even back then.My repair of Corel stern in progressmostly repairedA super excellent exactly as Corel intended build, from a European builder.this one speaks for itselfMy attempt at doing the stern as best I can per the 1:1
    Regard,

Most of the photos in all of my previous posts have pretty much been 'historic' ~~~meaning that they represent parts of my build that have taken place over a period all the way back to late 2010.  I've already mentioned that there were a few lengthy lay-off periods  . . .
. . . but now this log is pretty much in 'real time' and whatever is posted from now on will be of current parts of the build.

Right now, I'm wrestling somewhat with the stern parts and will be putting that to the side while I pay some attention to other less frustrating parts.
In the last few days I've been fiddling around with some smaller bits n' pieces.

    Picture stories > > >

These 'over-the-counter' spindles cut into large and small sections >>>

    . . . the larger sections going here >>>

    . . . to form this >>>

A few deck rings, a single shot garland, and the main bitts have been attempted; and while the garland and the rings are now a permanent part of the ship, the bitts and the quarterdeck rail are only dry-fitted. The rail and bitts are just too fragile and vulnerable to be fitted at this stage, and will go in "the box" with a few other delicate things already made.

Now, a 10 day break in France beckons in a few days time,   so there won't be much progress for a couple of weeks.

    Forecastle deck planking

The deck was planked in the same manner as the gun deck using the maple planking and blackening the sides, I joggled the planks from the position as shown in The anatomy of ships Diana, the effect is much better than just tapering the planking but you do need the waterway to do it, I planked over the cutter-ways in the deck and will add the fittings over them, there are no joints as the plank lengths are to short where there are no fittings.

Firstly thanks for the comments guys

    The forecastle bulwarks

These were the next job,I decided to lay the waterway down first and add the inner bulwark planking over it, this way should give a nice edge better than cutting the waterway to fit the curve. The waterway was made up from 6mm deck planks glued together and cut them to the bulwark shape,if they look a bit wide this is to allow the deck planking to be joggled into them. I laid them both sides and then planked the inner bulwark did a bit of filling on the top and filed them both square. I then removed the capping rails from the sheet offered them up to the bulwarks and they were only just as wide with no overhang !! so I checked the bible and all the capping rails show an overhang, I laid the rail over the plan and they are about 3mm to narrow (see photo) so using the rail I marked and cut out two new wider ones from the ply sheet they came from, I did not cut the location slots, I will do them later, they were first painted, and then glued in place with thick cyno  and repainted.

    Top decks

With the the gun, deck guns, and fittings completed the next part of the build is fit the top decks, all be it they are in one sheet, the quarter deck, the gangway and the forecastle. The first part was to fit the beams between the gangways, the beams were fixed to under side of the ply deck and slots cut into the inner bulwark to allow the deck to fit I considered this better than shortening the beams. Then all the other beams were fixed to the frames. Next I snapped off the top of the frame stubs and dressed them level, the ply deck was trial fitted to ensure it went down on all the beams OK and the levels and cambers were correct a few slight adjustments were made.

The deck was then ready to fit, I normally use Speed Bond PVA but in this case you need a longer drying time so I used a std  PVA as it takes a fair bit of time to apply the PVA and place, and pin the deck down. With the deck now fitted I then decided to fill the gaps around the edges and were the frame stubs had been removed, the edges at the gangways had gaps around 2-3 mm as showed in the photos these had a ply filler added, you will not notice this from side on as it will be painted.

A few more photos for everyone. (and yes a couple of GFPs..... I can't help it..... honest! )

As I said last night, bowsprit shrouds are done. Although it doesn't really look it in the photos, they are, in fact, equal length. I've sort of reached a natural stopping point this time, nothing really half done. About the only thing I'll do is brush on some matte medium to protect the rigging I've done in the last 2 weeks.

    Hi Guys,

Here's my new update just to show I haven't been sitting on my laurels ( painfull ).

I have fitted a new worktop to my space and removed one of the shelves, this is to allow for an ever growing Aggy, 6ft x 2ft 6ins, with scope for some shelving underneath should the mood take me.

As far as the Aggy is concerned all the gun port lids are now fitted with accompanying ropes, one problem, looking at the channels there is a fowl up, the ropes lay across where the channels will be fitted, this only occurs on the first two lids, it means that I am going to have to fill in some holes when the ropes are removed,  not a major problem but annoying all the same.

The figure head is now fitted and I have made 3 shackles on the bow for the Bobstays. I have also added some extra chains to the rudder chain.

I am currently working on the channels and have 3 sizes of deadeyes 3.5mm, 5mm and 7mm, my only problem there is that my 5mm deadeyes are triangular, they should be round, a quick call to Caldercraft and I should have some winging their way to me as I write this, they also want the others back so no spares there then.

She also has another 26 teeth, all the dummy guns are now fitted to main deck.

I do have a few pics.

    Figurehead fitted with shackles below.

Gun port lids on the Port side

    All guns fitted

Extra chains fitted to the rudder chain

General overview from the port quarter

Next step is to build and fit the channels and then it's on to the ships boats.

    Hello,

after I put off my Triton build I started a new project. Now I want to build the 50-Gun Ship HMS Leopard 1790 (POB) ,1/64 scale
Therefor I bought the book The 50-Gun Ship from Rif Winfield. At this are the plans of the Leopard drawn by John McKay.
I don’t make many words about the build of the frames because that’s often described here on MSW.

    Instead I show some photos.

    Christian,

As I'm having a measure of success with the wood I'm pressing on with trying to make wooden spindles. When I say I'm having success I'm also having some failures, but I'm having more successful cuts than failures, so I'll keep going for now anyway.

However, while I grind away at the tedium of trying to sort the stern quarters I'm also diverting to other (less tedious!) parts of the build from time to time.

The poop deck now has its planking done.
