Mirabell61 got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in ELBE 1 1948 by Mirabell61 - scale 1:87 - Lightship
Thank you Keith,
yes, I bought a bunch of longer and broader rubber bands some time ago and now they come good to use.
The light mast (till unfinished) was one of the first parts I started with. There will be a ladder from boats deck to the light platform later on. That will be quite tricky to solder ....
Today I closed the long deckhouse with the deck on it, and first made a pic of the last possible look into the hull. The moment the deck was glued on I realized that the cable from the hall anchor was only prefixed with a tape, so I have to find a solution for fixing the cable permanently, because I had unfortunately forgpotten to do so
Nils
last look into the hull. here one can see the cable I had forgotten to tie to the frames or somewhere else.
Also the turnbuckles can be seen. Bollards and Panama fairleads are also mounted on foredeck and along the long deckhouse
the chain end (of mushroom anchor) coming from the front bulkhead (on deck) is going to be fastened to the spring loaded buffer element
the underside of the boatsdeck is painted except (taped off ) for spaces where the supports will be fixed and the deck to be glued on to the superstrcture below

Update
made the boat`s deck and planked it, also coming for edges and aft stair outcuts. The fastening points (turnbuckles) for the mast stays were mounted. It would be difficult to mount the bottlesrews after the deck is on.
The blanc patches on the deck in the areas for the boats will be plated with a profiled anti slip layer
Nils
the card template for the boats deck
start with the planking. Deck and planking strips are both 0,8mm thick, so the total thickness is 1,6mm. That is flexebil enough for sheric bending down when glueing it on.
measures to bring the curvature into the deck
supports will be mounted (10 on each side) between deck and bulwark

Elastic bands are the best value for money tool for ship modelling. She is really taking shape Nils. I thought the light really set her off well.

She is ready for a test in my hot tub. I think everything that needed to be done is done.
If that goes OK then I can take her to the pond.

The main yard was finally also finished so far, here is an overview of the collection of all the blocks that have now snuggled together. Always seen from both the front and the aft. And as already written earlier, the stirrups and foot horses will only be smoothed and provided with gravity during the final installation.
The center of the yard with the chain sling ...
... and the yard arm, 9 blocks in 8 sizes :-0
Then came the exciting moment, the test hanging http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
First the lifts.
Then the yard tackles with outer tricing line.
And usually as last the braces.
And there is another little tidbit that is not normally seen on models. According to Steel, the rope slings were replaced by chain slings in wartime, as can be seen in the pictures of the lifts. Consequently, the forward-facing preventer braces should also be fitted. These replaced the double pendant of the braces of the 1760s. For this purpose, the brace was attached to the rearmost shroud of the foremast, ran to a block on the front of the yard, back to a block on the rearmost shroud and from there to the forecastle.
Exciting.

And at some point we got serious with the foot horses. First the thimbles were tied into the stirrups and the four-pack on each side was secured against being breathed away.
Then average out the distances for the stirrups.
For the distance between the thimble and the upper reference point, I made a small 9 mm gauge so that the distance is even when being glued down. Then 3 turns with the free end and glued that on too. When all 4 stirrups were in place, the foot horse was pulled through the thimbles and secured with an external knot before and after the thimble to prevent it from slipping through.
Then a short standing test, and lo and behold, it looks quite plausible.
Then knotted the eye on the inside of the foot horse to secure it. It was THE perfect eye. But I had overlooked the fact that the clamp on the other side of the yardarm went further out than expected, see orange thread ...
... so I cut off the eye and spliced in an extension, luckily it's hardly noticeable at this point, uffz.
This time the length was better and the eye was lashed with 4 turns on the other side of the yard.
Here is the finished ensemble and ...
... even our little able seaman was happy with it up there.

Really well done Nils. As a sailing model, it would look great on the water.

Managed to get the rest if the frames sanded. Made a new keelson too which I’ll slot to fit my frames after they’re set temporarily.

Progress. I’ve spent a lot of time working on the axial parts and stern. I made a second set of stern fillers and a fourth wing transom as the first just weren’t right. The transom isn’t glued up yet. I’m using black paper for the keel caulking because I like its look. I may make new rising wood to make it easier to fit my Hahn style built double frames unless I can figure out an easy way to mill two different sized slots on either side of bottom of the doubles frames.

At last a fellow builder 👍
The wing transom is tricky and it looks like you've got it sorted. Keep the ones that didn't make the cut as they will be very handy when you build a jig to build the counter timbers. Keep going mate - it's a small ship but very particular when it comes to accuracy. If I can help just let me know Oh and by the way if you need answers to any questions drop Gerard a message as he has helped me understand his drawings.
I only can build between work so you will probably be finished before me.

The past two days work. Made two wing transoms one from one piece of cherry one from 2 pcs of beech. During the forming process I ended up just going too thin for it liking. Made another today thicker and also made the other transom pieces. The plan is to mill the keelson and rising wood and get the axial structure all cut and fit. Then move into the frames since I gave my lumber now.

I learn a lot by reading other people's logs and that's where that idea came from. The one in the pictures here is acceptional I think.

Well the superstructure of the boat is almost complete. I need to add the dingy, the canvas railing covers and a few more things.
