Thanks much Rob. I must say This scale is smallest i could handle I reached a limit and i obviously struggle with some metal work riveting pieces that I wish I redo them to look better. but at the same time i they will be burnished black so it will be barely visible only with magnifying. good thing is there is always many pieces i can try better. I totally kudos you for working on 1:96 scale. I personally cant imagine doing that minuscule thing. Heck i assembled numbers for hearts &bulleyes for standing rigging , and i am eyeing for best quality possible black hemps there is on the marekt nowadays. i want her standing rigging shine and she deserves doesnt she:) its still far far away - maybe summer - just planning ahead. after I finish lower masts I will set those aside and will have to return back to deck for longer time . as there is plenty working assemblings missing - pumps, lifeboats, windlass, anchors and chain mechanisms, so i will be way way behind . speaking of Main shrouds, i will go down 1 mm from original thikness so they fit to deadeyes...

Rob, i just asked so that we know the era top was inatalled on her. by the way i definitely removed planks and widened it as per picture. from shrouds rigging persepctive its just natural for it to be wider as 5th or 6th hemp is coming fro very behing angle under the top thus strain is reduced and almost removed totally from tiny square-ish opening and applied to natural pushing force from mast not cornering top. I think it also answers my previous queation so top therefore doesnt neee t obe as rigid . Frtont is reinforced by another bar in top and thats all.

Thank you for fine comments . Rob its perfectly fine and apropriate. I was expecting more accurate pics etcetera. Looking at pics, few things strikes me. are those wooden masts ? etc...do you know the vessel and time? oh its glory from the late era right? i recognize cut jib boom from another photo...observing top, even round halfcircle is broken and futtocks area is not suported at all only with two thin strikes beneath not connected to overall structure. are you sure all elements are wooden ? because if not and if iron involved, this design makes sense. otherwise it wouldnt be fair to make it wooden - as it would be probably way too fragile structure.? maybe floor of that top can be ironplate as well..i dunno. just curious but its easier to model it so...:) V.

Worth checking prototype. Its lovely typical 18 century british war frigate with all ooomph of éra gilding and decoration in 1:48 . design and execution of prototype IS créme de LA créme. Top of any štandard. Top materials, boxwood etc. Laser cut and cnc cut figurehead etc... But what masters 18 century craftsmans were AS they Made IT as admirality models - now in Greenwich maritime muse by hands with samé quality. Its Beyond understanding ..Building her give me joy two times a year....:)

Great drawings Rich. your unmistakable sign on them. intereatin to observe cutwater . Im glad you are afloat with the latest outcome folks, and thanks for apprecitive comments. I suppose Chucks apprenticeship in group project winchelsea pays off in my latest modeling too as I learnt thing or two. I m definitely happy to give my glory a bit of fresh breath with masting etc. im learning a new stuff and surely im so thankful i can rely on your mighty knowledge when needed. i must say now its enthusiastic time and im back to happy modeling which is important for me. im thrilled to srart a new yard new bit... im realising now that looks like i will be soon making lower masts trees ( my god - and than i can start studying rigging bowsprit and lower standing rigging and start gathering resources for it ! ouch.

Thanks Rich. yes yes I see that I updated my rigging education today for a whole lot i realised that in book american built clipper is last chapter dedicated to masting and rigging with examples. specially double topsail design. its all fascinating stuff i better move on more carefully

Rob, i did study a bit Forbes Howes patents and double topsail Howes innovation with truss as result of minimise cursed "hole between two sails " etc. got it now, upper topsail is movable on the trunk.....but im still uncertain about topgalant yard. being it quite large sail to me it doesnt look if one topgallant she is fitted firm on topmast cap or is she? that is my last uncertainty i swear. Thanks Pat ,Rob. I noticed weight to be factor too , I see iron yards and wooden were attached differently most likely for weight sake

Strange thing is on these pics topgalant is mounted differently not on crane but with a round parrel. seems it gets confusing it probably varied ship from ship isnt it...

Thanks a milion Rob, it helps enormously. Though i dont intend to change topsail mounts at this point - it was tremendous work. im glad topgallant is different but wioll be more and more iron work... i should seek for some books of masting and rigging - i note there will always be some variations even with bands on yards... as looking at flying fish design plan i have. so more headache. 😕 . i assume there will be slight innacuracy in a way here and there with little details but i dont consider it fatal. even some captains might have done some rigging adjustments. though essentials are functional structures that are always given.

Rob Rich would you folks mind to post pic or to point me to some i Can see how exactly IS mounted topgalant yard on Glory? I mean construction on yard. IS IS samé AS royal yard? Built over added wooden half circle with metal lock around? I apologize if not goint to watch All pics so far but not sure that shows yards mount. Flying fish Has Still same double eyed casted hinge as lower yards. Up to topgalant. But having one topsail less so probably thats why.... Many many. thanks. I should probably slow and watch Rob doing IT 😕

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
