BANYAN reacted to Dan Vadas in HMS Vulture 1776 by Dan Vadas - FINISHED - 1:48 scale - cross-section - from TFFM books
The keel is screwed to the baseboard from underneath using the mounting nuts I previously fitted to the keel. It's rigid enough to stop less than a very hard push to either side. The clamps on top of the acrylic square keep things in position until each frame dries. I also make pencil marks on the tape stuck to the square to check that nothing has moved.
Initial setup looks a bit like this. The red arrows point to the lines I've drawn for the extreme width of each frame :

I appreciate the comments and insight. We're pretty sure surgery isn't the answer. We do need to get her off the opiates due to bowel problems and still get pain relief. Being in Oregon, we're working on the "alternative" but her back isn't simple due to a lifetime of compensation. We think the pain clinic is on the right path.... we'll see.
Back on topic... here's a pic... 6 more strakes to go and one (at the bow) will need to be a drop plank... <sigh> I tried to get it without one.. but not going to happen.

Hi Jeff,
I've been busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger in a windstorm. Dealing with some health issues of the Admiral's, getting the yard winterized... oh Licorne... yeah.. Slow going. Each plank is being spiled, bent, and fitted. Three planks per strake and I've done I think 25 strakes on each side. But the end is in sight for the main hull planking... 6 strakes on each side left. I'll do an update then. Then another after I sand and gap fill. The plan is for me to then turn attention to the stern, which should be fun. On side, I'm working up drawings for the cannon machining, carriages and quarter galleries. Fiddling with the ship's boat (first of 3) and also attempting, carving stern decoration (The Arms of France).

BANYAN reacted to RGL in HMB Endeavour by DaveRow - FINISHED - Corel - Scale 1:60 - First Build Kit
Looking good mate, I used the Caldercraft brass pins as well and blackened them, the wooden ones seem to be so out of scale that a human hand could not grab them at the scale. I think the amount of work required to fix up something that's replaceable with aftermarket comes down to time v money at times. That being said, your detail is fantastic. Leave some space for the mast coats.

This is one of the easiest things to make.

BANYAN reacted to Remcohe in HMS Kingfisher 1770 by Remcohe - 1/48 - English 14-Gun Sloop - POF
I made an error in the building sequence and I should have installed the main mastpartner earlier. Now I got a bit into trouble getting it in at this stage. I had to take a shortcut and omitted half lapping the carlings under the deck beam. After the gratings are installed this won't be visible, but I'm confessing this error anyway :-)
Getting the pump tubes right was a bit of trial and error but after not to much work they were in place without to much hassle, I guess I was lucky today. I added iron bands at the end of the tubes from thin paper.

Thanks to all for the 'likes'
Pat - welcome aboard!
Nigel - great point Nigel, I think this will come down to balancing two evils, eliminating the risk of damage during sanding or the risk of introducing a gap. The dimensions of the walnut strip are not very precise, and I was orginally hoping to use the much tighter dimension of the boxwood as a guide. Either way, I'm going to try to finish the planking near the wales as much as possible before installing to reduce potential damage to wale. Will ponder this further...
Mobbsie - welcome back, jedi master! I'm going to do what any self respecting ditherer will do, avoid making the decision until I absolutely need to, think I've got plenty to do in the meantime
Big step for me today, managed to spile my first plank. Used masking tape to get an approximate first cut at the needed shape, and then made up a cardboard template to fine tune. Because the cardboard bends I made a 'master' template shown for final marking of the profile. Hopefully the kids won't notice, I had to raid the cereal cabinet for cardboard supplies...Initially I made the plank 4mm wide full length to match the strip to be used elsewhere, but changed this to reduce to 3mm at the front end to look a bit more in keeping with contemporary models. It should probably be less than that, but any thinner would likely be too hard to work with.
The outside edge was cut and fine tuned first as its convex and easily done with extra to hold on to. The inside edge was gradually nibbed away (very carefully) using a dremel sander. Think I'll leave the fine tuning until its glued on. Plank was bent using a steam iron to approximate shape to make glueing easier.
In position....not glued yet.

Ditto on the corner posts; the finished effect will look really nice and will be as I recall how it was done on the rebuild of an actual pearler (PAM) I have seen down here in Melbourne.

BANYAN reacted to KenW in Rattlesnake by KenW - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Scale 1:64 - American Privateer
I’ve gone as far as I want, for now, with the forecastle. I installed the beams for the deck that were removed/broken from the forward kit supplied bulkheads. All seems O.K. up front.
Now I must turn my attention to the stern. From reading the blogs of DocBlake and jsgerson, I realize that there are many potential problems with the transom back here. As far as I can tell, I do have some problems, but they aren’t the same ones that they had. So the work begins. Also I’ve decided I’m going to use dark walnut for the outer planking above the white molding rather than Swiss pear. I just like the look better.
