That is amazingly neat and very detailed work ED; I learn so much from watching (and reading) your techniques.  It is not so easy to turn it into practice though

Fig-95 - For individual Plates, as well as strips, after they have been run through the RHM, to produce a double row of rivet heads on the long sides. the Plates will then need to be tinned with soft solder for the final attachments.  Soft solder will not stick to a dirty surface, and above all we do not want solder around the tiny rivet heads, as it is all but impossible to remove.  To overcome this, apply the tip of a felt tip marker pen to the area where the solder is not wanted.

    Shipyard Update:
More Ratlings(yes I am still at it):
Been a while since my last post.
Slow going with the Ratline knots.
Up to the next level > the TopMasts.
Made the templates and well, >> sit for hours and chug away at tying the half-hitches.
I will be glad when this phase is completed, aim is by Christmas.

Finished 95% the Main TopMast both sides:

I've left the top row off -> to see where the TopGallant shrouds tie off.

    Main TopMast Port

Bit of a mess at times, knots tied before trimming.

    The ForeTopMast Starboard done:

I've left the top row off -> to see where the TopGallant shrouds tie off.

Currently working on the MizzenTopMast Starboard:

I'll have to count up the number of half hitches at the end of the Ratlines.
120 each side of the Main Shrouds, then ++++++ for the others.

Well more to do.... however >>
The shipyard will be closed all next week, as I head to Fremantle W.A. to visit my eldest son for his Graduation from Bachelor of Medicine(Doctor).

It looks like you were all RIGHT!

It appears that the Bismarck used the gun control optical range finder units to also house the gun control range finder radars. According to the info supplied by Ken, in the case of the main gun units at the top of the superstructure the addition added so much weight that the units had to be redesigned so the bearings could handle the load!

    Thanks guys .

There are two Radomes (EDIT - see note below) on the forward 2nd deck. The parts in the kit are pretty ordinary, but the laser-cut ones are pretty good. The laser cutting itself is excellent, and all the parts fitted well despite (as usual) some vague instructions. Just an exploded line drawing and another showing the finished article. There is no indication of which parts should wrap around a former or butt to it. Here are most of the parts for one radome, there are also 6 laser-cut circular formers for each which aren't shown in the pic :

I built both of these at the same time on my MDF block. Most of the outer panels were slight cones, which I rolled with a tapered roller on a piece of high-density foam. The pics below show the sequence of construction :

EDIT - I've discovered (thanks to Lou and Jan) that these are not Radomes, as radar wasn't invented at the time of Bismarck. They are in fact Fire Control Stations.

Both of them finished, ready for paint.

I had to use the lower part from the kit as it didn't come with the laser cut. The fit between them is OK. I'm leaving them off until I've installed the Railings to the 2nd deck :

And I've now fitted those railings. These are turning out very well IMO. I'll touch up the chipped paint near the end of construction, as I'll most likely bend a few railings later on :

Drilling the five stanchion holes under the boat rack was a lot of fun :

His framework so far. Turns out he is going to be left handed because his left shoulder is more square to his frame than the right side. I've also started machining his shoulder shafts, those his arms and hands will be very entertaining.

Thanks a lot Ben, much appreciated. Also thanks all for the likes!

Ok I've make about ten stanchions to get four I liked. I took square stock and chucked it in the lathe.
I turned it to the desired dimension added a couple of forms and then fine tuned it with files and
sandpaper while spinning. Nothing to fancy but I'm satisfied.

Well shes just about done. Just a few touch ups and I'll call her finished.

Thank you both. They were done way back in the 1980's?
Today's painting is The Drifter Base at Flotta in Scapa Flo. The Drifters were used as Tenders to the Grand Fleet in WW1 and the RN in general in WW2.
And to give them something to tend ........
Nevada , part of the 6th BS of the Grand Fleet in 1918
