This is the rebuilt of my built log of the Mare Nostrum, which I completed.
The pictures of the start of the built are missing, so I inserted the pics of the instruction sheet to show the start.

Trust the pictures are self explanatory, since I will only publish the pictures, not the comments.

Finished the first deck stairways. It was not an easy job to me, it took me a week and have redone them several times to have them symmetrical to each other and to have a 180 degrees winding.

Maybe it can be of help to beginner builders to describe the way I at last succeeded:
    1. Glued the first curved step to the stairway column at the height of 5 steps
    2. Glued the other curved steps with a minimum of overlap
    3. Glued one straight step to arrive at a winding of 180 degrees
    4. Glued the other 4 straight steps to each other, again with a minimum of overlap and with help of some wood as a frame
    5. Glued the short railing to the 4 straight steps and then all together to the stairway column
    6. Finished by glueing the long railing and handrails

Have dryfitted the stairways after each and every step to see whether they will fit.

As can be seen, one of the loose end of the long railings was broken, so I decided to cut it of from the other longrailing as well. If I donot like the result when placed the stairs on deck, I will restore them.

    Regards
    John

    Thanks Wim,

Had a look at your builds, they are all very nice. So I am delighted with your compliment and hope my King will end up acceptable. Anyhow it is great fun to build this Huckleberry Finn paddle steamer.

    Hi Edwin,

Thanks for the compliments, highly appreciated. If you refer to the brush on the picture below :

Well that is not a wire brush, but a clean shoe brush which I use to clean the wood before varnishing or painting.

First thanks to all who are replying to and following my build. It is a tremendous stimulation to read all your remarks (and compliments).

I noticed in the build by md1400cs and Janv that apparently the current kit is somewhat different from my older one. I have the kit with the blue box.
In the build by md1400cs (Michael) the capstan is shown as from the kit and that Michael decided to build his own because the kit-version deviated too much from the original. I have (re)built mine from the parts of the kit, but my kit-version more resembles the original than his kit-version. I added the beams to the capstan myself.
In the build by Janv I saw his bautifully painted lion figurehead and that its paws fall ouside of the bowbeam. Unfortunately, my older lion figurehead is different as the paws do not have an opening between them. Also the head is differently shaped. I added the white teeth myself.

I have worked further on the items on the main deck. I made new gratings (I added a picture of the old gratings as well), and made them not according to the plans, but based on the museum pictures: gratings within a curved frame, and almost all gratings of the same size.
As described above I made also the capstan, and having seen such in the build by md1400cs, I also added a 'brake'.

I continued further with my coloring, as I now also painted some of the inside of the deck and the doors on the deck.

More or less done with the yards i'll probably glue the foot ropes to get a better shape. The spirit sail yard was a balls up on the plan. The size, location and number of blocks was wrong only by looking at the last plan sheet  could i figure out what i was supposed to do.Lucky i have all of Frank's photo's as back up,i can't thank you enough Frank for doing the Supply.Time now to see if i have the other yards set up o.k.
