Hello Wayne, I hope you had a nice couple of days celebrating. No luck with the search yet. I've tried everything from riverboat, steamer, sternwheeler, stern paddle wheeler ..... Just can't find one with four stairs. Take care, Anja

Hello Wayne, Yes, the repair went well and it's good to be back. We haven't been to the garden center, so we didn't plant anything in the garden yet. The only plants wich have survived this winter are one hydrangea and three privets (ligustrum). It will have to wait a week or two. Still have to decide what to plant. They must at least be hardy. A garden can sometimes be a lot of hard work. I think I will trade ours for a balcony. And how was your birthday? Did you have a good day? Thanks for looking in and take care, Anja

Hello Augie, Thanks, it's good to be back. Good luck with the snow shoveling. If you're fed up with it, just come to us, the weather here is slightly improving. No snow and no rain today. Only sunshine. And the weather forecast for the coming week is not to bad. And lots of places to go fishing Thanks for looking in and take care, Anja

Hello John and thank you. I will have fun (once the planking is done) Thanks for looking in and take care, Anja Hello Jim, Yes, finally some progress done. No, not one of Sjors's canon carriers. The damage was totally my own fault. My knife slipped and ruined a plank completely Thanks for looking in and take care, Anja Hello Grant, It is good to hear from. I missed you. And it's indeed good to be back. The innovative solution I owe to mobbsie Thanks for looking in and take care, Anja

Hello friends, Here it is, a little update on my Half Moon. Finally! The second planking on the starboard side is underway. I re planked the poopdeck because it was damaged. The frames of the main deck and the forecastle weren't all aligned and straight. I reduced the size of the frames on the main deck to make them more straight. And I totally removed the frames on the forecastle. Then I made inner bulwarks to be placed against the hull. Thank you for this idea Mobbsie. But before placing them permanently, I will have to see if the railing will still fit. Unfortunately the wood that is used for the inner bulwarks is of a different colour than the deck planking. I tried to stain the inside of the hull, but that was not a success. It doesn't cover the wood very well. So, I think I'm also going to use planks for the inside of the hull. Then everything will have the same color. Second planking starboard side is underway Reduced the size of the frames to place an inner bulwark. Replanked the forecastle deck and removed the frames The inner bulwarks for the main deck and the forecastle. Inner bulwark dryfitted in place The inner bulwark for the forecastle dry fitted in place Thanks for looking in and take care, Anja

Hello Wim, Grant, Alex, Geoffrey, Mobbsie, Jim, Anthony, Thank you all so very much for all your kind words. It makes me feel happy to have so many friends from all over the world. As Grant suggested, I told my employer I needed to make up for some lost time in the shipyard! But, unfortunately, they didn't want to give me any extra time ..... Sorry, just kidding But I promise I will dig my Half Moon out from under the dust and continue the second planking coming weekend. No more excuses. Otherwise Sjors will drag me to the shipyard. Thank you again and take care, Anja

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
