Hello Grant, It's good to hear from you. Thanks for stopping by and the good luck wish. I appreciate it. I finished my preparations for the interview on tuesday. I will let you know how it went. It's a good idea to let Sjors take the pictures, he has a better camera anyway. Thanks again and take care, Anja

Hello Alex, Very nice! You did good. I really like the walnut you used for the hull, good choice to keep it in one color. And you used furniture wax? Never heard of that one, but it turned out really good. Wax gives the wood a beautiful, warm and natural look, while the grain and texture of the wood remains visible. A tip - Only when the wood gets sparse, it makes sense to rub it again. Maybe once or twice a year. Take care, Anja

Hello Wim, It is indeed not quite the same. But with your skills and talent, the modification will turn out just fine. Will you be drawing the modifications yourself on the basis of the replica? Or do you have another source? Good luck with the modification and take care, Anja

What is your favorite hand tool(s)??
Anja replied to Modeler12's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Hello everyone, These are my favorite handtools. My little hobby knife It is almost my sharpest tool available, and never shy to make a sharp cut. It goes through almost every piece of wood. I don't argue with it, otherwise I will cut myself. And If I do my measurements well, everthing will be cut the way I want. But if I forget to change the blades in time, It will ruin my modeling dreams. My sandpaper It is not the most beautiful tool. It has a rough skin and it wears quickly, but it will create the smoothest surfaces for me. My tweezers That's my tool when I have small objects to be manipulated. Two extra fine fingers for small pieces for which Even my fingers are too big to handle. But I don't dare squeeze it too hard, or the parts will fly all over the place. Take care, Anja -
Hello Spyglass, I am thinking about an Ironclad warship, maybe the Lave from 1854? Take care, Anja

Hello Sherry, Thanks for looking in. Work is getting a little in the way of buildtime. I have to prepare myself for the interviews with my new employer. My first interview is coming up next week, on tuesday, and the second interview will be in the first week of april. So, it's a bit hectic at the moment, and difficult to concentrate on the build. But the last week of March I am free, and don't have to go to work. So I will certainly try to spend some time on my Half Moon. And how is your new build coming along. Have you sorted out the plans yet? I can't wait for you to get started. Thanks again Sherry and take care, Anja

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
