    Hi Kamil

Just found your log and hopefully will tag long for the ride.

Have you tried scrapping the hull rather than sanding it, in many cases scrapping is better, give I a try, what have you got to lose. That's a nice bit of planking though.

Your deck planking looks great and I love the colour of the rails.

I have managed to put all those spindle/balusters/balustindles to good use!   A little error in my planning led to less work - only 80 spindles were needed.
I've made and installed more of the decorations as well.

Here I'am again with something that I have done.
The lower shrouds are on .....
Still turning deadeyes but ok, I think they are straight now.
The first shroud is totally served and I have the deadeyes make a little higher then the other ones.
So you will see it better that it is a shroud without ratlines.
I don't know the name of it so maybe someone can tell me that ?
I also make the futtock stave.
That's a job I really want that left behind but then it's not correct ( I think ).
After a few words who are not te be translated, there on.
It don't deserve maybe a beauty price but I keep it this way.
Next thing to do are the little shrouds that goes from the top deadeye to the end of the serving and then.....ratlines !

Thanks for the kind words of support.   I'm not so much off and running, but off and walking.  I ran the first time and we all know where that went.     Now that I think about it, I'm more like treading through a minefield at this point.

Okay, after reworking the top of the deck slats they are now looking more like slightly weathered teak and as mentioned above, the Admiral likes it very much.  Soooohhhh, I continued cementing the rest of the slats to finish the aft deck.  There is still need for a few touch-ups here and there but overall it doesn't look half bad.
I invite all yuns to give me your thoughts on it, and don't be polite     I can always rip them off and go the boxwood route.

Here are the pics I took at 17:00 hours when I punched out of the dockyard for a much needed libation, a cool glass of belgian ale

Lots of touch ups to go, but overall I'm pleased with the change.  At the work table in incandescent light or daylight, the ship takes on a much more realistic appearance.  Are we our worst critics?  Probably yes.  Will my grandchildren notice or care?  Probably not.   Cheers, Gil

I have to admit gents that I have made milk curdle quite often so we have no shortage of yogurt at home, with a little practice I reckon I could strip paint which would be most beneficial right now.

Just as a quick verbal update I am currently putting the shroud cleats on the Mizzen and Main masts, no information in either the manual or sheet plans so that called for a quick email to Jotika, the answer came the same day and was really comprehensive.

For anybody waiting for Caldercrafts HMS Surprise to come out, it should be out later this year, Jotika have stepped up their production with new machinery and workshops, I know we've heard it all before but this time I think I believe them.

Everyone: I have managed to now complete the stern ornamentation on the Agamemnon (it has been easy when you have had 4 days of -30c). I found it went easier than planned. I had concerns that things wouldn't line up properly but I found out that if you took your time everything fit in nicely. For some reason I seem to have more room on the upper stern gallery so I took the liberty of adding some scroll work just to fill in the stern gallery.

My next step now is to get the catheads on the bow and then start working on gunport lids and then channels..

    Enjoy the pic

LOL: If there is one thing I am bad at, is to keep my workspace clean and organized. I've been like that all my life. I doubt I will ever change.

Take into account that what you see in the photos is just about ALL the room I have to build. That is a blanket closet, so I have everything cramped in a small space.  Forget about power tools bigger than a Dremel.
The tip about taking photos in a "clean" environment is totally valid, though. I will take it into account my next photo sessions. Thank you for your input!

One remark....you have to CLEAN up your bench !!!!!!!!
    Maybe a tip.
When you make pictures, take the model to a place where is nothing around it.
Now the eyes went somewhere else then the model.
    It looks to busy.
When you have only the model on the picture, you will SEE the model.
It gives more right to your work then.

    Update Feb/12/2014

Today, at 9:52 AM I tied the last of the clove hitches that form my Vasa's shrouds and ratlines.
This may mean nothing to you, but to me it marks the finish of the standing rigging in my ship, (buh-bye ratlines tying.See you again in my Royal Louis, a few years from now.  )
I'm including some photos. If you notice some loose lines laying around, it's OK. They will be properly trimmed when the time comes.
Comments, critiques and anything else you may write: Welcome!!!

    Update: JAN 23/14
I finished the shrouds and ratlines of port side. Here are some photos. Flashlight plays some funny games over certain black lines, making them look too shiny. They don't look like that in person.

I need to pay more attention to the alignment of the deadeyes, I know!.
Also, my choice of tan thread came out too light. Nothing I can do about it now.
    Here's 2 lessons learnt.

You will see some loose lines here and there. They are not definitely fixed yet.

Sjors reacted to rafine in Frigate Essex by Rafine - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Kitbashed
I decided to attack the stern exterior next, beginning with the stern transom and then moving to the quarter galleries.

The transom work was relatively straight forward. I used the laser cut transom piece, which was a little distorted in shape and required some correction to make it symmetrical. After painting it black, I made the various moldings from boxwood strip, wet heat bending those pieces that required it. I chose to leave the moldings natural wood. I then added two pieces of scrollwork from the PE sheet in the kit, which I painted white. They didn't match the plans, because it turns out that an early "test" sheet was included in my kit. This is of no concern to me because no one knows what it looked like anyway. Of more concern was that the sheet contained no lettering to do the Essex name. As a result, I used some decal lettering from my model railroad days.

The quarter galleries are next. These will be largely, if not entirely, scratch built.
