  1. If memory serves me correctly, weathered zinc looks very much like lead. You should be able to find a suitable paint that's available locally to you. John
  2. May I ask why your German ship is flying the British white ensign? John
  3. Mark, when you eventually get to painting the hull, remember that the zinc anodes weren't painted, and thus need to be painted a dull zinc colour for the model. John
  4. Nicely made. It's unusual to see the quadrantal correctors (Kelvin's balls) painted white. John
  5. Yes, John, they're still sitting on a shelf here at home as most experienced model builders already have them. If you'd like them, send me a private message and we can arrange for you to get your hands on them. John
  6. That's all coming together beautifully, Craig. Will there be a view of your lovely interior fittings when she's finished? John
  7. I find Peter's method a very quick and easy way to make multiple strong eyebolts that certainly will never pull out. A variation is to use one of those craft knife handles that have a four-jaw type chuck for holding the blade. Easy, peasy! John
  8. Helo, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. That kit makes into a very nice little model - a great one to start on. John
  9. Vaddoc, it's great to see that you're pushing ahead in spite of the multitude of difficulties you're currently experiencing! John
  10. The advantage of building a model like our museum's 'Duchess' is that we can bypass all the hype and written opinion and simply study the available photos carefully! 🙂 John
  11. Thanks for that link, Steven! John
  12. Another update. All the headsails are now completed, although I may re-run one of the fore topmast staysail sheets - we'll see. A start has been made on the main staysails, so it hopefully won't be too long before I can cross the first yard. There are still quite a few other outstanding jobs to do other than rigging, however I'd like to get at least one yard crossed so that visitors can get more of an idea of where the model is going. John
