  2. Hello Paul, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. Coincidentally, Dundas, New South Wales, is only a few kilometers down the road from me. John Laing
  3. Yes, mate, we (the model makers) have already been told that we won't be back before December. John
  4. Mark, we're dealing with the Commonwealth Public Service here - they'd probably want to form a committee to investigate the matter! John
  5. as I said, my tools are locked in the museum, so my home bench has sad idle all through lockdown. I've been amusing myself working on the Admiral's family tree - a very interesting exercise in itself and also a great winner of browny points! Weflack - we're opening up here in Sydney and under state health orders museums and galleries are now permitted to open, but the maritime museum is very wary of opening up and getting volunteers back in given the high average age of the volunteer force. John
  6. My first thought was fine wire stretched across the frame and soldered at each end, but ideally a small electrical component that can be repurposed might be the answer. Try having a brows through Jaycar's catalogue to see if there's any inspiration there. John
  7. Chuck, the model and all my tools are still locked away in the museum. I'm hoping to get back to the museum in December, but at the moment everything is still a little shaky with the State Government keeping its options open to some extent with loosening our Covid restrictions. John
  8. It's a long drive from Florida to Bahrain for such a small ship! Now you can relax and work on the model at your leisure. John

  15. Hello Len, and a warm welcome to the forum from 'Down Under'. John
  16. You've made a very nice job of those railings, Rob. Well worth the effort. John
  17. Kevin, according to Underhill, the multiple backstays are treated in exactly the same way as shrouds. John
  18. Hello Richard, and a warm welcome to the forum from down in Sydney. A beautiful and a tragic ship! That looks a very fine model you're building of her. A mate of mine was master of the Lytellton ocean rescue tug at the time of the Wahine disaster and they were on standby to sail up to Wellington to assist if required. I remember him telling me that his wife was begging him not to go because of the severity of the weather and he saying that he told her that they were a rescue tug and their reason for existence was to rescue ships and people. He also said that they were actually very relieved when they were told they weren't needed - he said, "I'm not sure we would have got as far as Wellington in those seas." John John
