Jim Lad reacted to AyathTheLoafer in Endeavour by AyathTheLoafer - OcCre - scale 1:54
Thank you very much. I am aware that it will be a huge challenge.
In some ways it might be good, because it will force me to consider and reconsider every step.
There will be none of "this is easy and I'll just..... OH BUGGER!".
As with the curved frame. I am not gluing the others in untill the curved one is fixed.
And we all know what that means. Finding a way to straighten it or making a new one.
I have no doubt this will be a multi year project where I will learn an awful lot of useful stuff from you guys.
Greetings from Up Over.

Hello Hugo, and a warm welcome to the fourm from down under.
What a treasure you have there - a model built by your grandfather.
How far you go is, of course, entirely up to you, but if it were mine I'd do as little as possible to it. A good (but gentle) clean to remove the dust and accumulated grime is the obvious first step. Once she's clean you can sit back and reassess the situation. The sails have obviously had a hard life, but they add character and age to the model. If you do finally decide to replace them, you'll need to find cloth that looks the age of the model so they don't stand out 'like a sore thumb'.
