I spent today making a start on the fairleads. The forward fairleads are fairly standard while the rear fairleads have 3 rollers each.
The fairleads are .875" long x .120" wide by .160" high. I made them from bar which was first machined to .875" wide by .160" thick using a fly cutter.

The profile of the fairleads were first formed from a series of holes drilled along the length of the bar and then connected by a .080 diameter end mill. The fairleads were then cut from the bar using a slitting saw.

Just to be a bit confusing the dimensions were worked out in millimetres.
The corners were then cut off to give the finished shape (the top has still to be cut)

Mounting holes and holes for the rollers were then drilled.

There are a lot of you how said you are familiar with the Mariefred and offered to help if I had a problem. This has to do with the drawing not the boat, but I need help. There is a mark that looks like a strange "Z" on one of the drawings.   I think it is for millimeters but I'm not sure.  I have circled several of these symbols on the drawing below.

Thanks Per.  I Think I have found about 25 or 30 pictures of the Mariefred and about the same number of close up detail shots or interiors.  But the one you picked is the way I want to build her.  Most of the pictures are more recent.  You can tell because the boats on top have been replaced with canister inflatables.

Yes Nils, It has a lot of good detail, even shows the metal plating on the hull.  I do have to be careful with the dimensions, most are in MM but some are in inches.

Thanks, Keith.  There are a lot of lovely boats out there, you just have to find them, and the hope there are plans.

In Marietta, OH. On the Ohio river, there is an origination called "The Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen".  They have quite a museum.  You might check with them.

I finally got a start on the Mariefred.   The drawings I received from the museum in Stockholm were the best drawings I have ever received.  When I get drawings of a boat the first thing I do is scan them into my computer and open them in an ancient copy of AutoCad.   Then I check length, breadth and height as though I were designing her.  Usually there are errors that must be corrected.  But these drawings lined up and were correct.  When designing a boat the designer draws one side of each bulkhead these then have to be redrawn and each one needs to be mirrored to make a full width bulkhead.  These are then transferred to and cut out of wood sheet and mounted on a board.  That is where I am at the moment.

The coal-fired steamship Mariefred was built in 1903 for the trade-Enhörna Stockholm-Mariefred. She has sailed under the same name and with the same steam engine ever since.  The vessel has been owned by the same shipping company, Gripsholms-Mariefred Ångfartygs AB since 1905. All this makes Mariefred one of the worldwide unique ships and an indispensable part of Sweden's cultural heritage!
Built at South wharf in Stockholm in 1903. Length 32.84 m, width 6.33 m. Coal-fired steam boiler.  Speed 10 knots.  230 passengers.

Russ, I believe the main parts of the boat are wood.  But in some pictures such as one picture of the bow the spray guard on top of the rail is dented so it is metal.
Welcome aboard, Michael and Nils.  I hope this turns out to be another ‘fun build”.
This is a picture dated 1903.  I will try to build to this time.
